The Pygmy musical tradition.
The Pygmy people are mostly known for their vocal music. Their music is characterized by performing their music off the top their heads. The Pygmy music travels into daily life. They have songs for entertainment. Also for specific events and activities. It is used for entertainment songs, but they have songs for specific events and activities.

How did pygmy music contribute to current American music?
Pygmy music contributed to current American music. It contributed to jazz because it has a snappy beat, but it uses musical instruments. It might have contributed to pop because it has a fast happy beat and it also has singing. I heard some of the pygmy music when my aunt was changing the channels in the car radio. I heard some of the African style singing when she put the radio on gospel.
West African music tradition
In north Western Africa the griots( traditional story tellers who pass on stories orally. They use stringed instruments and the xylophone. In south Western Africa they rely on drums and communal singing. It is used at events.

How did West African music contribute to current American music?
West African music contributed to american music. It contributed to gospel because the singing sounds sometimes what gospel music sounds like. It might have also contributed to rock because they are playing drums at a very fast beat. When I was in the car riding home form dance with my dad I heard the a drummer drumming very fast on the rock station and it sounded like west African music.
