Police Officer Dead after Bombing Incident and Riot that followed afterward
Yesterday at around 3:00 P.M at Chicago's Haymarket Square, a bomb went off killing a police officer. The previous day striking workers from the McCormick Harvester Company gathered to protest over the killings of four strikers. When the police had ordered the crowd to calm down an unknown person threw a bomb that killed a police officer.
Andrew Carnegie's Steel Plant Workers Strike
In Homestead, Pennsylvania the Union plant managers cut the workers wages. The workers decided to strike after that. The Homestead managers hired nonunion workers and brought in 300 armed guards to protect them. They was a battle that left at least 10 people dead.

Yes, i believe that labor unions have the right to strike. They can if the place that they are working isn't safe, if they are getting paid really low, or if their hours are way too long.
