Great Things Going on in Third Grade
Please do not forget that this upcoming week is a closed campus due to fourth and fifth grade STAAR testing. There will be no volunteers this week and all lunches are closed. If your child has a birthday this week, please choose another day next week to come and celebrate at lunch. Thank your for your understanding as we create the best testing environment for our students.
Please see the attached flyer about MISD Frisco Rough Riders Night.
This week in Math, students will learn about financial literacy. This is a great tie in to our economics unit in Social Studies. Students will learn about supply and demand and how it effects cost, they will create a budget, they will learn about what happens to a price of an item if it is purchased with credit and they will learn when they should spend money or save money. This is a great opportunity to have your student create a personal budget using their allowance and open a saving account!
In Reading, we will continue our final Kate DiCamillio novel study over The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Over the next two weeks, we will use the novel to study character development, sequence events, make connections, make predictions, infer, draw conclusions and work on complex vocabulary development. This is one of our favorite Kate DiCamillio books, as well as a student favorite. Please make sure that your child brings their copy of the book each day to class, so that they can follow along as we read, and refer back into the text to help formulate higher level reading responses.
Students are so excited about our upcoming Economics ELM. It has been wonderful to see all of the great products students are producing for the fair. Students will finish working through their DIY's this week. Students will work within their groups to create advertising for their ELM stores in preparation of our Economics unit.
