Student Survey

Each year, YC teachers are required to have their students answer a survey. The purpose is to see what is working well for students and also where we can improve student learning.

Please have your student fill out the surveys for their teacher. It is only seven questions and should take no more than 10 minutes. The survey is anonymous.

Last Call to Perform in the Talent Show!

Our talent show will be this coming Thursday from 9:30-10:30 in the YC Cafeteria. We are looking forward to some amazing performances from our students!

Even if your student is not performing, we would love to have you in the audience!

If your student would still like to perform, please let us know by Monday 4/27. We have room for more student performers who want to share their talents!

YCIS Book Fair May 4-8

YCIS will be hosting a book fair in the library on May 4th through the 8th. It is a buy one get one free sale! The fair will be open from 7:30-11:30 and then in the afternoon from 12:30-3:30.

We will not have a time to go together as a group, but you are free to stop by any time. If your child is taking state tests, you can check out the book fair before/during/after testing!

Starting May 5th: Science Experiment Enrichment!

Angela Guzzo, one of our Alliance parents, has genernously offered to teach a science experiment enrichment class! The class will be held in the Alliance room on Tuesdays from 9:30-10:30 . The experiments will be appropriate for elementary and middle school students.

We wanted to start this coming Tuesday, but we have to push it back another week to May 5th. Here is a description of the activity we will be doing on May 5th:

The older kids (Grades 4/5 and up) will be making wet-mount slides of onion skin and celery slices. They will be making pen and ink drawings of what they see through the microscope at two different magnifications. There will be a discussion of cells, their function and basic parts, and they will also be given a list of plant cell vocabulary to write out, and drawings of cells to label and color.

The younger kids will be hearing a story from a related picture book, doing some coloring or other fun activity and then creating a visual representation of a cell (exact medium to be determined!)

To ensure we have enough supplies, please respond to this email if you will be joining us on May 5th. We hope to see you there!
