Dear Parents,
This week students will be visiting other first grade classrooms to "Travel Around the World" and learn about the many holidays and traditions celebrated during winter. Thank you for helping your child complete their traditions project; if they haven't already turned it in, please help your child turn in their traditions project on Monday.
Here are some upcoming events:
- Thursday, December 14th is the Winter Arts and Lights Festival first grade performs at 5:20-5:40.
- Friday, December 15th is a minimum day. If your child is not eating in the cafeteria, please pack a lunch for your child. The students will still eat lunch at 11:00. Students will be dismissed at 12:55.
- Spirit day is on Friday - Students can wear holiday/winter clothing and/or pajamas.
- Food Drive continues until December 15th. Canned fruit Items can be dropped off in front of the school or we can collect them in the classroom.
- Our Class Winter Celebration is on Thursday. Thank you to Mrs. Nolan and Mrs. Gandhi for organizing a fun-filled event for the students.
Have a wonderful Winter Break! I will see the children back on January 8, 2024! Happy Holidays!

Language Arts
At home, please have your child read 20 minutes each day/night. Your child can also log on to RazKids at https://www.raz-kids.com/ to find books at their reading level. Stremel2023 and the password is bunny

Read Alouds: Gingerbread Man books and other winter celebration books
Writing
Write complete sentences using adjectives, noun, verb, adverb, and prepositional phrases and capitalization/punctuation.
Write about different winter holiday traditions.
MATH - True and False Equations
This week your child is learning about true and false equations.
Math Fact Practice: Please help your child continue to practice memorizing ways to make ten (1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, 5+5, 6+4, 7+3, 8+2, 9+1) and doubles (6+6, 7+7, 8+8, 9+9, 10+10).
School Information
SEES Winterfest
Please mark your calendar for Thursday, December 14th, between 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Our school has organized a holiday-themed musical performance, and each grade level will perform separately. We have also scheduled the SEMS Jazz Band, SEMS Choir, food trucks, arts and crafts, holiday games, and more! We hope to see you all there! Here is the schedule:
4:30-5- SEMS Jazz
5:00- TK/K/SEMS Choir in MPR
5:20- 1st
5:40- 2nd
6:00- 3rd
6:20- 4th
6:40- 5th
December Food Drive
Our Annual Food Drive, in partnership with Feeding San Diego, will take place between December 4th - December 15th.
We need lots of boxes for this Food Drive and would be grateful for any medium-sized boxes you may have in your garage or recycling bins!
Please bring your boxes to SEES, and drop them off in our PTO room, next to the front desk. Thank you!
