Salk Seahawk Scoop
Week of 2/5/2023
A Note From the Principal
Salk Elementary Families:
February is a busy month with lots of activities. Please pay careful attention to the Scoop for more information. This week, on Friday, we will be kicking off the Kids Heart Challenge that our physical education classes will be doing. We will be having an assembly hosted by the American Heart Association.
Wednesday is count day. This is an important day for the district but as we have been sharing all year attendance matters every day! Thank you for making sure your student is in school. Wednesday is also the elementary open house for new students enrolling next fall. Please see the information below.
Lastly, on Thursday we will be celebrating the 100th day of school. There are several activities based upon your student's grade level, but all students are invited to participate in the spirit day celebrating being 100 days smarter. Grades k-2 will wear something with 100 on it while grades 3-6 will dress as if they are 100 years old. Please see the details below.
Go Seahawks,
Anthony Birkmeier

Band Concert
Our winter band concert will be on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Richards Middle School gym. Due to scheduling, the location had to be changed. Students must be in the gym with their equipment set up by 6:30 P.M. for a group warm-up before the concert.
For attire, please have your students wear a white top, black bottoms, and black shoes. Prior to the concert, please make sure your student has everything they need: instrument, book, stand, new reeds, etc. so that rehearsals can go smoothly.
Reach out to our elementary band teacher, Ms. DeSchutter, with any questions.
Dentists R Us will be at Salk on 2/16
Heart-A-Grams
Heart-A-Grams are a nice way to send valentine wishes or tell your child that you love them. Heart-A-Grams will be delivered on Valentine's Day to all classrooms. If you would like to pre-purchase Heart-A-Grams, then please fill out the form below and send the form and money to school with your child. Heart-A-Grams will not be sold in the office or in the classrooms.
Please keep in mind that the student council will be selling only until the Heart-A-Grams sell out...which they do every year!
PARKING LOT
* Please remember that the drop-off lane is not for parked cars.
* The bus loop is for buses only!
* If you want to walk your child to their door, please park in a parking spot and walk up together.
Thank you for helping to create a safe parking lot for all our students!
6th Grade Parent's Night at RMS
Richards Middle School would like to invite you and your child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, the programs offered, and the selective classes available to them. They will also provide our students with a tour of the building’s selective classrooms.
The program will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents are to report to the RMS gym, where they will meet the administrators, counselors, and academic department heads. Students will gather in the cafeteria, where their tour will begin.
The goal is to provide you and your child with a good understanding of the middle school vision and mission at Richards Middle School.
RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February 27th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, March 1st to assist students in filling out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade teacher no later than March 5th.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools beginning March 6th and March 8th.
Do you have a student entering school in the Fall 2023?

Ready or Not - Cold Weather is Here!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10 degrees or warmer.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons.
