Preparing to Return
ConVal Nurse Newsletter - January 2021
Dear Parents,
The ConVal School Board has voted to adopt the COVID Monitoring Team’s recommendation to return to the green phase of the District Reopening Plan, and so all students who have chosen in-person learning will return to their school's in-person learning schedule on
Tuesday, January 19th.
Upon return, we will continue to follow the procedures outlined in the ConVal District Reopening Plan, and we would like to take a moment to remind families of our COVID-19 protocols that remain in place.
SCREENING PROTOCOL
We will continue to screen students for symptoms of COVID-19 upon their arrival at school, and request that you screen your child at home before school.
Symptoms (new or unexplained):
Fever (of 100.0°F or higher), or chills/feeling feverish
Runny nose, congestion, sore throat, cough
Muscle aches, fatigue
Headache
Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
Change in taste or smell
Risk Factors:
Has your child been in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
Has your child traveled outside of New England in the past 14 days?
IF YOUR CHILD ANSWERS “YES” TO ANY OF THE SCREENING QUESTIONS (EITHER SYMPTOMS OR RISK FACTORS), THEN HE/SHE MUST STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SCHOOL NURSE FOR FURTHER GUIDANCE.
IF YOUR CHILD ANSWERS “YES” TO ANY OF THE SCREENING QUESTIONS UPON ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED AND HE/SHE WILL BE SENT HOME.

MASKS
Masks are required while on school grounds.
Masks must cover both the nose and the mouth.
While a variety of masks may appear to meet these requirements, their effectiveness may also vary, so the use of masks with vents or valves, gaiters, bandanas, wraps, and face shields are not permitted for use as a mask.

HAND HYGIENE
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
- If your student is ill and will be absent from in-person AND remote learning, please notify your school of the absence and the school nurse with the symptoms your student is experiencing.
- If your student has any symptoms of illness but is well enough to participate in remote learning (middle & high school students only) please notify your school nurse of the symptoms that the student experiences. This is required so that the school nurses may continue to track all illness across the district.
- If your student is able to attend remote learning, but is quarantining at home due to direct close contact with a positive COVID-19 case or travel outside of New England, we also ask that this information is relayed to your school nurse.
**It is important to note that quarantine time may be extended
for positive cases of COVID-19 in a household**
- Individuals who live in the same home as a person who is COVID-19 positive and who is unable to isolate within the home in a separate location, must quarantine (stay home) while the household member who is COVID-19 positive is infectious.
- These individuals are a "close contact" and must also complete an additional 14 days of quarantine following their last exposure to their COVID-19 positive household member. This means their quarantine may last up to 24 days (10 days while their household member is on isolation and then an additional 14 days once their household member ends isolation).
