This Week's Learning Topics
Math Topics
Standard: 4.MD.4
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
"I Can" Statement:
I can solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots.
What will we learn? We will learn how to plot whole numbers and fractions on a line plot. This standard is a measurement standard, and helps students work with displaying data.

Reading Topics
Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect,
problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text or part of a text.
"I Can" Statement: I can identify the different text structures of a nonfiction text.
What will we learn? This week, we will be reviewing text structures. Understanding these will help us better analyze nonfiction texts. What are common ways informational texts are organized and how does this organization impact the reader's interpretation of the text? Authors purposefully organize text in a variety of ways to convey information. Proficient readers use structure to enhance their understanding of events, ideas and concepts expressed in the text.
