High School Hybrid In-Person Learning to Begin October 19
At the beginning of the school year, District 303 communicated our phased-in approach to reopen schools that was designed to allow flexibility between three instructional models: fully in-person, hybrid/blended, and fully remote.
Bringing high school students back in person has a unique set of challenges. Staff members at both the district and high school levels have worked to create a plan to support high school students who wish to attend in person using a hybrid model. At the September 21 Learning and Teaching Committee meeting, members of our administrative team and members of our high school teacher committee outlined the plan for the School Board.
To help facilitate the transition to a hybrid model, we need additional information from you. Parents/guardians are being asked to complete the following mandatory questionnaire to indicate if your student will continue with full remote learning or come back to school in a hybrid learning model. Please follow the link below to complete the questionnaire. You will need to log in using your HAC credentials to access the questionnaire. To read the entire district communication, please see the attached document.

LRC Book Recommendations
The challenges of this pandemic are many, and building resilience and adaptability in our students is vital. We have found some recommended novels that may help students develop positive ways to cope in a time of crisis and entertain them in the process. Here is one to try:
“Perfect Mexican daughters do not go away to college, they do not move out of their parents’ house after high school graduation, and they never abandon their family. But Julia is not your perfect Mexican daughter. That was Olga’s role. A tragic accident on the busiest street in Chicago leaves Olga dead and Julia left behind to reassemble the shattered pieces of her family. And no one seems to acknowledge that Julia is broken, too. Instead, her mother seems to channel her grief into pointing out every possible way Julia has failed. But it’s not long before Julia discovers that Olga might not have been as perfect as everyone thought. With the help of her best friend, Lorena, and her first love (first everything), Connor, Julia is determined to find out. Was Olga really what she seemed? And either way, how can Julia even attempt to live up to a seemingly impossible ideal?” - Epic Reads

A Message from the PTO
The PTO is requesting your help to show support and encouragement for North teachers! As you have heard, D303 high schools will be moving to a new format on October 19. With this comes new technology, unique teaching and learning methods/skills, health and safety requirements, logistical challenges, and all of this within a short time frame. These changes affect all of those involved, including administration, staff, families, and of course, students. We hope all students are receiving additional support from home or outside resources as needed.
The PTO would like to provide encouragement and thank you messages to the North teaching staff as they work diligently to implement these continuous changes. We want to organize a wall display at North with emails or cards from parents and students.
Please send a thoughtful email or a card to be included to LauraRThomas@att.net or Laura Thomas, 5N083 Middlecreek Lane, St. Charles 60175, or drop in Laura’s mailbox by October 9. If you prefer, you can send an email directly to your student’s teachers.
Please help support local children through Big Hearts of Fox Valley!
Help support local D303 children affected by financial hardship by being a Christmas sponsor. You can shop for gifts for any number of children you choose, make a monetary donation, donate gift cards, or have your business or neighborhood become a sponsor. The organization needs sponsorship sign up by October 1. Due to the impact of the pandemic, Big Hearts anticipates the number of children in need to increase significantly. See the attached flyer or click on the provided link for additional information. You can email questions to PTO at LauraRThomas@att.net or to info@bigheartsfy.org.
Please consider helping out this worthy cause. You can make a difference for a child by becoming a sponsor; just click on this link to sign up by October 1!
