Fall focus on Reading

Hello Corvallis Families,

Tuesday is a 1:30 dismissal for all students. It's a professional development day for our staff. We're working hard to give our students the best.

Picture Day is this Wednesday! Go to this link for more information. https://dorianstudio.com/

Our Family Literacy Night is next Wednesday, September 20th, 5:30-6:30 pm. We will have free books for you to take home.

There are several popular TV shows that have books that go along with them. Below are a list of some of them. A great reading activity is to read and then watch the show and see how they are different.

Last Kids on Earth

Percy Jackson Series (Show starts in December)

Series of Unfortunate Events

Ghostwriter (this series is based on a different book each show)

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Theodosia

Curious George

Here's a link with a whole lot more books that connect with TV series

Let's keep reading!

Water & milk only at school

Please only send your child to school with water. We have milk in the cafeteria. Sports drinks and juice are getting spilled and making a sticky mess. With the increase in sugar, bugs, rodents and other pests will start moving in.

Students will be asked to put these drinks in their backpacks to drink at home.

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

Be Safe is our first Corvallis rule. We show safety in a number of different ways.

Question of the week: What are some things we can say to someone who is bothering us?

Some examples we teach here are:

I feel ____ when you _____.

I don't like that, don't do it again.

That hurt my feelings.

That hurt my (arm, leg, ect)

That was rude and hurt my feelings.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Please be mindful of parking. The red curbs are marked by the city because of a safety risk. Parking in these zones presents a danger to our students. Parking is tough around our school and we want to be safe for our students.

Do not park or block the crosswalk. Again this is dangerous for our students and families.

Bus loading zones are for the safe transportation of our students. Do not park in the bus zones. The bus is on a schedule and may block you in creating a stoppage in the flow of traffic.

Absences and Tardies

Every school day is a day of learning for our students. It's important that students are in class on time and ready to learn. Our students line up at 8:33 and are in classrooms at 8:35.

Students entering the building from 8:35-8:45 will be greeted by our staff and given a tardy slip to take to class. After 8:45 students will report to the office to obtain a tardy slip.

If your child will not attend school on a particular day you may email cor.att@slzusd.org or call 510-317-4999. Please leave a voice mail. Our office checks it several times a day.

12 ways to help kids cope with school anxiety

Many of our students suffer anxiety. As a parent, I know how helpless we can feel when our children are suffering. Here is an article that talks about some things parents can do at home. Please reach out to your child's teacher to discuss your concerns. We want to help you and your child work through the anxiety and enjoy school.
