Sectionals This Week

Wind Symphony sectionals will continue on Thursday at the same time/link as last week. Honors Band will only have Percussion sectionals on Monday at 3:15pm. Wednesday Honors Band sectionals are cancelled due to "early release" and teacher professional development on Wednesday afternoon.

Grade Update

The first progress report of the year locks tonight, with grades from weeks 2 & 3 of the school year. On Friday, we input grades for everything that had been submitted. We initially input 0s for assignments that have not been turned in yet. We also marked them as "missing" in Canvas.


Because of technology issues and everyone learning how to navigate our new system, we have since gone back and taken all of the 0s out, leaving missing assignments as blank grades. This means those missing assignments will not negatively impact a student's progress report grade. There are currently a LOT of missing assignments, and we have been adding comments if there is a problem with an assignment submission.


Please contact us with questions, but please also look in Canvas to see which assignments are currently missing. Eventually if those assignments are not turned in, the grade will be changed to 0 and the band average will go down.

Breezin' Thru Theory

We will begin completing assignments in Breezin' Thru Theory this week. Please take a moment to watch THIS VIDEO TUTORIAL to help you navigate through the site and know how to complete assignments. It will be a fun way for us to learn/practice our music theory and complete assessments. I can't wait to see who will be the Student of the Month in this system very soon!

Charms Issues

If you have tried to log in to your student's Charms account and have been unsuccessful, please attempt the following:

1. Remember the school code is hudsonsoundmachine

2. Try "s" in front of your student's ID number as the password (if you haven't reset it yet)

3. Try JUST your student's ID number as the password if you are new and have never logged in

4. Use 12345678 as the password if you have forgotten it and need to reset the password.


**If you still have trouble logging in, please contact Mrs. Becker. She is working with the Charms people to solve this password issue as quickly as possible.**


Once logged in, you can click on the wallet/finances button to see and pay any band fees using Paypal.

Please understand that this year is unlike any other and our policies, procedures, and plans are likely to change throughout the year, especially with regards to performances when we are allowed to gather together again.

Band Fees

Band fees for the fall semester will be $30 for all students. This will cover their physical band binder with all included materials, a band t-shirt, and full year subscriptions to Breezin' Thru Theory and Music First, online music platforms we will be using throughout the year for virtual instruction/assessment. If your student is a 7th or 8th grader and your band fees were paid in full last year, you will receive a credit on your Charms account for activities we were not able to complete/attend in the spring. The credits in Charms will be reflected by August 31.

Band fees can be paid through Paypal in Charms (preferred method), with credit card, and by cash/check if absolutely necessary.


**Students using school-owned instruments (oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor sax, bari sax, French horn, euphonium, and tuba) are required to pay an instrument usage fee set by the district of $25 per semester ($50 for the year). This fee will be assessed in Skyward and payments will need to be made online in Skyward this fall. We are still setting this up in Skyward and will let you know when the charges have been applied so you are able to make the payment.**
