Lobby Guard:
We will continue to use Lobby Guard in our Welcome Lobby. Our main office staff will continue to scan your government-issued photo identification and the software will conduct an on-the-spot background check before a visitor is permitted entry into the school. We are delighted to welcome back PVS's School Resource Officer (SRO) Michael Minniti. Mr. Minniti helps keep our school safe on a daily basis by assisting with morning and afternoon traffic, checking our doors to make sure they are secured, and monitoring the hallways.
Birthday Celebrations
We enjoy celebrating birthdays! A special snack can be sent in for your child's homeroom. Full cakes and goodie bags are discouraged. Cookie cakes need to be pre-cut at home. Check with your child's teacher for any foods to avoid, and when summer birthdays are celebrated in the homeroom.
Patriot Day on September 11th
During our morning announcements today, we shared.....
Sunday marks the anniversary of September 11th, Patriot Day. On this day 21 years ago, America faced one of the saddest days in our history.
What we should reflect on today is how our firefighters, police, paramedics and other first responders showed amazing character on that day.
In each year since, Americans have been encouraged to commit themselves to acts of service to honor the victims.
Today, think about how you might show incredible character.
Think about what you can do for your fellow Americans. Our STARS positive behavior support program is focused on safety for the month of September. All of us can demonstrate safety for each other in our school, our classrooms, during lunch and at recess.
The heroes of September 11th were not heroes because of their uniform; they were heroes because of their character.
We all have a chance to be someone’s hero.
Safety at PVS
The safety of your child and all children in our schools as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. We will conduct a fire drill and safety drill every month. It is our hope this helps you better understand our desire to keep our children and staff safe in all circumstances.
You will receive a parent notification the day the drill has been practiced. Please feel free to discuss with your child at home.
Important Message to Sixth Graders - Immunizations are due before school year!
Please be aware, the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services requires the following vaccinations for students turning 11 years of age and/or entering sixth grade per NJAC 8:57-4:
1. One dose of a meningococcal-containing vaccine
2. One dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis)
Students will not be permitted to enter Sixth grade in September 2022 without these required immunizations. If your child does not turn 11 years of age until after the school year has begun, please provide a letter or a copy of your appointment card as proof of the upcoming appointment for these immunizations. Documentation of these immunizations must be submitted to the school nurse prior to the beginning of the school year. Please contact your child’s healthcare provider to schedule this appointment as soon as possible. A copy of the letter from the school nurses and a form that may be used by the healthcare provider is linked below.
Many messages have been sent regarding immunizations. Please make your appointments with your sixth grader's healthcare provider now. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Health Office at 223-5120 extensions 6321 or 6322.
