Rose Lane Principal Letter...
They say that April showers bring May flowers, and we have truly been showered with many amazing events in April! We are very much looking forward to our students truly blooming during the last month of school.
To begin with, we've had an exceptionally smooth couple of weeks with our state testing - AASA (Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment). As of today, we have finished testing 3rd and 4th grade students in reading, writing, and math, with an additional pilot test for 3rd grade students to demonstrate their oral fluency when reading aloud. We will use this data over the summer to help identify the academic assets that students have gained this year, as well as any opportunities for additional growth next year. Along with a team of teacher representatives from every department and grade level, Mr. Reyes and I will then develop plans which meet our students' needs.
Next up for all students, Kindergarten through 4th, is our MAP testing in math and reading. These tests are district-driven, and we will also use this data to better understand how to meet the needs of all students when we return to school in August. Mr. Reyes, who wears many hats including that of testing coordinator, has done a great job of organizing all of our testing, whether MAP or AASA, with the assistance of Ms. Frazier. In addition, our Rock-It Readers team is busy working with all Kindergarten through 3rd graders to deeply understand where their strengths are as readers, after a year of hard work and tremendous growth. Many kudos to Mrs. Brown, Mrs Nesbeitt, and Mrs. Flores for organizing this - it is a big job!
More fun events that will be blooming in May:
- The Kindergarten Performance on May 2nd. Thanks, Specials area team and kindergarten teachers, for a job well done. Parents - we'll see you at the Madison Performing Arts Center!
- Junior Achievement Day on May 13th. Shout-out to Mrs. Huyck for her leadership, and to the 50+ volunteers who will be on campus that day to teach the lessons!
- The launch of our 2021-2022 yearbook. Way to go, Mrs. Ewald for another beautiful momento of an extraordinary year. Parents - order yours today!!
- The return of our celebration for 4th graders, "Going Forth," which will be held on May 24th on campus. Way to go, Mrs. Greksa and the 4th Grade team, for organizing this event, which we will be doing for the first time since May of 2019.
- A whole bunch of staff appreciation events, to celebrate our fantastic front office personnel, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and of course, our amazing teachers! I am very proud to work with each and every one of them and I am grateful for all that they do!

News from rose lane's assistant principal...
Hello Rose Lane Families!
We are nearing the end of this school year and I must say it has been an adventure! We appreciate all of your patience this year and cooperation as we navigated through the different challenges that this year brought. Quarter 4 always tends to fly by so we definitely want to make every day count for these final weeks of school. Please do your very best to ensure that your child or children are here at school on time each day. It is so crucial all year, but especially during these final weeks since the students will be taking their end of the year assessments. These assessments help us to understand the growth your kiddos have made and assist us in continuing to support them next year.
Our end of year MAP testing will begin next week on April 25th. The MAP test is our way of measuring student’s growth in the areas of Math and Reading. It is an untimed test that adjusts based on correct or incorrect answers. After the students finish the test they are provided with a score that allows the teacher to understand what skills each individual student needs support in. I am including a schedule of our MAP test so that you know when each grade is testing. Please ensure that your child is in attendance on the day of their reading and math test. It is also very important that they get an adequate amount of sleep during the night before.
As always we cannot thank you enough for your continued support. We know that the success of your child is a team effort and we appreciate all that you do! Please reach out if you have any questions. Take care!
Your Rose Lane Assistant Principal,

Author Terri Fields Visits Rose Lane!
Terri Fields, an award-winning children’s author visited Rose Lane on March 25th. Terri’s visit was a HUGE success! Our kiddos loved her and she adored every single one of them! Terri commented on how smart, funny, brave, and kind our students were during the author's presentation. She said it was a real pleasure and an honor to present to Rose Lane and that we made her feel right at home.
As a little girl, award-winning author Terri Fields remembers standing in the library with her mother patiently waiting to check out more summer reading books and thinking someday, I would love to write my own book and have it in a library. After an extremely successful career in teaching 30 + years (Sunnyslope) and not to mention winning the prestigious Arizona teacher of the year award, her dream came true!
Terri has written several award-winning fiction novels and picture books for grades spanning K through 12. A few of her amazing titles are: “Danger in the Desert”, “The Most Dangerous”, “Missing in the Mountains”, “Burros Tortillas”, and her latest "And That's The Tooth"!
Kindergarten News....
Kindergarten students have been reading a story called, “Bread Comes to Life” which details all of the steps to making bread. Parent Kiona Lynn reached out to CiBo Pizzeria, who delivered delicious loaves to each Kindergarten class on Thursday, April 7th. Thank you, Kiona, for reaching out to Chef Guido and CiBo Pizzeria!
Then, parent Maggie Danford reached out to Noble Bread, who delivered a loaf of bread for each kindergarten student, plus all 6 kindergarten teachers and our 2 aides, and a few left over for the front office staff! The bread was amazing! Thank you, Maggie, for reaching out to Jason Raducha at Noble Bread and also for Courtney at Noble Bread who made the delivery to us Friday, April 8th.
We are so blessed to have parents willing to reach out into the community and to have a community so willing to reach out to support us in giving our students a more enriching experience. Thank you so much!
