The Golden Trio

The Golden Trio is a title referring to Harry James Potter, Ronald Bilius "Ron" Weasley, and Hermione Jean Granger.

Harry and Ron meet each other at Platform 9 3/4. Then, they end up sharing a compartment on the Hogwarts Express. It is in that very same compartment, on that very same day, that they reintroduced to Hermione for the first time. She had come in and asked the pair if they had seen Neville Longbottom's lost toad Trevor.

Even later that day, all three of them are sorted into Gryffindor House. At first, only Ron and Harry are best friends, and Ron even insults Hermione on a regular basis. In fact, one of Ron's insults leads Hermione to cry in the girl's lavatory in the first place! In the bathroom Hermione is faced with a troll, a troll that Ron and Harry help her to fight off. "There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain tool is one of them." - J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter's Evolution

Harry Potter, himself, changes a lot throughout the series. In book one, Harry is this young, neglected, little boy that cannot even fathom the idea he could possible be a wizard. In the very last book, he walks to his death, knowing that he is about to die, and knowing what will happen if he doesn’t. The series shows us a famous wizard growing up. It shows us when he meets his best friends. It shows us when he witnesses death for the first time. It shows us an eleven year old boy, who believes in himself enough that he faces a fully trained wizard, despite all the times his “family” put him down. It shows us a twelve year old boy that thinks he is going to die, but tries to comfort a phoenix instead of worrying. It shows us a thirteen year old boy who had his only hope for a family, that was truly his, stolen from him by a rat. It shows us a fourteen year old boy that watches someone get murdered, by the same person who killed his parents, no less.It shows us a fifteen year old boy that knows the world is in danger, even though very few believe him. It shows us a sixteen year old boy that watches his teacher being murdered, by someone he trusted. It shows us a seventeen year old boy walking to his death because he cannot bear for anyone else to die fighting for him.

Hermione Granger's Evolution

Hermione Granger changed, too. She started as… well, as “an insufferable know-it-all.” In the second book, she does most of the thinking, and is the one who actually figures out there is a basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets. In the third book, Hermione is the first to uncover Remus Lupin’s “furry little problem.” In book four, she started S.P.E.W. (Society of Promotion of Elfish Welfare) in an attempt to free house-elves, an enslaved race, and obtain equal rights for them. In book five, she is the one who convinced Harry to teach Dumbledore's Army as a rebellion against the oppressive Ministry of Magic. In book six, Hermione maintained her academic excellence even through all of the drama. In book seven, she erased her entire existence from the memory of her parents, in order to protect them. Wow! She is amazing!

Ron Weasley's Evolution

Ron Weasley’s years at Hogwarts are a bit less intense. First year, he meets a famous wizard named Harry Potter, a wizard that was going to get him into a lot of trouble later. Second year, his sister is nearly murdered by a younger version of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named*, and his Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher does nothing to help with that. Third year, he learns that the his pet rat, a rat he allowed to sleep with him, is actually a full-grown adult that is partially responsible for the death of his best friend’s parents. Fourth year, Ron gets jealous of Harry’s fame, and of Viktor Krum. Fifth year, he joins a rebellion that is fighting against You-Know-Who* and the government. Sixth year, he gets into the Gryffindor Quidditch team as Keeper. He drops out of his seventh year because he wants to help Harry and Hermione look for horcruxes. It is in the last book when he finally gets the girl, in the middle of a war but “it's now or never, isn't it?"
