Graduation Updates
A grad parent update email was sent out on Monday, February 20th. If you are a grad parent and did not receive this email please check your junk mail or spam as it was sent as a group email and may have been flagged as junk. Please contact Mrs. Thompson at jenniferthompson@pwpsd.ca and let her know if you did not receive the email and it is not in your junk mail.
This update email includes a list of items for grad parents and graduates to complete. Parents, your To Do List looks like this:
Complete the parent survey: if you have not yet filled out our contact information survey yet please do so now. This survey (click here to go to survey: https://forms.gle/CtFKcE3oqD16GhaN7) gathers your contact information to use in the Google Classroom so that you receive all information about grad activities and important deadlines including the Parent Led Grad Celebrations information.
Parent Led Grad Celebrations: All grad celebrations and activities, beyond the school endorsed cap and gown ceremony, are organized by the grad parent group. The school is not involved in any of the planning of these events and we do not know any of the details. If you would like to know the details about the grand march and/or the other parent-led grad activities you must complete the parent survey (using the link above) or email the lead parent, Kim Janzen, directly at jakimok@hotmail.com.
Ensure that your graduate has created a myPass account. If they have not done so already or are having problems with it, direct them to see Mrs. McNabb at school for help.
Book grad photos: Watson’s Foto Source has set aside March 23rd to April 29th for Sexsmith Secondary School grad photos. If you would like to use Watson's for your graduation photos please contact them to set an appointment during this time. Watson's has a SSS grad cap, gown, and stole there for you to use. It is very important that you go to have a grad portrait taken, even if you do not want to purchase any photos. Watson's will take a portrait in a cap and gown and forward it to the school for free. These are the photos we use for the school yearbook, at the grad cap and gown ceremony, and for the picture we hang in the school. If you have your grad photos taken elsewhere please be sure to forward a cap and gown grad photo to the school.
Grad List: The first draft of the 2023 Grad List has been posted on the grad’s Google Classroom. They are not permitted to share the list in any way, but they have been told to review the list and make sure their name is on it. Please ask them to show you the list and their name on it. If their name does not appear on the list please have them reach out to Mr. Lauzon to find out why and correct it.
Guest tickets: It’s time to discuss the number of tickets for guests for the cap and gown ceremony. Each graduate will have 8 tickets available to them for guests. There are a number of families that do not need all 8 guest tickets and some large families that would like to have more than 8 guests. Please complete the survey to let us know exactly how many tickets your family needs. Once we know how many extra tickets we have we will give one ticket to each requesting family and repeat until all of the tickets are used up. The survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/whUsuUDVkpf7mD6N8
*IMPORTANT* All graduates must have a myPass account!
Many graduates have already created a myPass account with Alberta Education. If they have not already done so they need to do this immediately!
myPass is an Alberta Education self-service website for students to:
- Order high school transcripts in English and French
- View diploma exam marks (you will not recieve a paper copy of your marks in the mail!)
- Register to write or rewrite diploma exams with online payment
- View and print Detailed Academic Reports (DAR). This is like a transcript.
- View progress towards a credential (diploma or certificate). You can see every high school course you have taken, all the credits you have earned, all of your marks, and what courses you are currently enrolled in.
- Order additional copies of an awarded credential in English or French
To sign up for myPass, they must have:
- the student's Alberta Student Number (ASN). Their ASN is on their PowerSchool account. It is the 9 digit number.
- the student's date of birth
- a current personal email address (do NOT use your school email because they are deleted after you graduate and then you cannot access your account)
- creating a myPass account has been added as an assignment to the Grad Google Classroom as a reminder for grads to get it done!
- Please use the link below to either login to your myPass account and make sure it is all working, or to create an account if you have not already done so.
- If you need any help creating this account please see Mrs. McNabb.
