Mathematics - Ms. Harris & Mr. Cebrzynski
Hey Team Pago Pago! Great work last week! I’m proud of how hard all of you worked to complete your PARCC assessment. This week, we resume math instruction. I will not assign paper homework, but students must complete their teacher assigned I-Ready. In class, Math 6 students will practice writing and solving equations in real world scenarios. Students will have their RCT #2 assessment on Friday (Unit 6 End of Unit assessment). In Math 7, students will begin Unit 8: Probability & Sampling. We will work on activities located in their IM text.
Grading Reminders: Grades are updated weekly on Aspen. Please check Aspen for students’ grades. Late assignments will receive a max score of 85% and they will be updated by the End of the Term. Please check in with your child to ensure work is submitted on time.

Science - Ms. Sharp
Hello scientists!
This week, we will finish up our climate unit by studying renewable and nonrenewable energy sources before taking the Human Impact RCT. Ask students what they learned about energy sources!
Thursday will mark the start of our design unit. The first challenge will require students design a mechanism that can deal with or get rid of Space Trash. (Website:)
Space Trash Design Challenge: This will not require additional materials, unless students cannot find what they desire within our classroom make-shift Maker Spaces. The project will require that students research the problems associated with human trash left in space and asks them to design a mechanism that can get rid of or deal with space trash.
Homework: Homework only if students do not finish their project during class time.
Formatives: tentative
5.10.23: RCT Human Impact (moved so that it does not conflict with PARCC)
6.5.23: Carbon Footprint Self-Evaluation + Analysis
Summatives: tentative
5.31.23: Roots Advisory 4 Summative
Design: Standard info
As of May 11, students are officially in the design unit portion of the year. Students will engage with four different design challenges, some assigned to them and some chosen by them. These design projects will align with our previous units.
Materials needed will vary depending on the project and the student’s individual choice/preference. Overall, these donations would be appreciated:
Cardboard (in any form)
Hot glue sticks, glue guns
Pipe cleaners
Tape (any kind)
Popsicle sticks
Roots:
Cephalo = head
Gastro = stomach
Audi = hear
Hetero = different

*Keeper words from previous weeks: anthropo, auto, biblio, mono, dia, fract
Roots quiz 4.4 will take place Friday, May 12.
English Language Arts (ELA) - Ms. Lemon & Mr. Cebrzynski
World Geography & Cultures - Mr. Martini
Next week students practice their research skills to explore the culture and history of a country in Latin America in order to write and publish a one-page anthropological magazine spread.
No CEA this week! Congrats on finishing PARCC testing (on Tuesday!)
Spanish Humanities (Garcia)
Dear 6th grade families, welcome to week one of PARCC testing. During this time, I may not teach your child every day so you may see a reduction in homework. Furthermore, there will be no quizzes or after school tutoring while we are taking the PARCC. In Spanish Humanities 6, students will continue reading chapters of Cajas de Cartón and complete a maker project on Friday that is designed to build their collaboration skills.

ANET and PARCC Information
Math ANet 3 Assessment – Headphones
Deal will administer the Math ANet 3 assessment on Thursday, April 27th at the beginning of the school day. We will conduct the assessment using planned PARCC testing groups and locations. This means students need to arrive on time (by 8:45 am) to report to their testing location before the assessment begins.
All students will need headphones for this ANet assessment as well as PARCC testing. Students are invited to bring their own wired headphones. Deal will provide headphones for any student who does not have their own. Headphones must be wired and use a traditional headphone plug.
PARCC & DC Science Assessments
Deal will administer the PARCC (all grades) & DC Science (8th grade) assessments during the month of May. Most testing will take place in the morning and families are asked to avoid scheduling appointments for students the weeks of May 1st and May 8th. Please note students must arrive on time (by 8:45!) to be included in their session and once they have started are not able to be dismissed until testing has been completed. We will also administer the Math ANet 3 (4/27/23) assessment in PARCC format to familiarize students with the required testing arrangements. Make-up testing will take place throughout the month of May as needed. Please see Chancellor Ferebee’s letters to families regarding the assessments:
6th Grade PARCC testing dates: May 2, 3, 4, 8, 9
