Dear Martin by Nic Stone
The protagonist is Justyce McAllister, a 17-year-old ambitious, student whose internal struggles include identity, racism, and adolescence in contemporary America. He comes from a difficult family background and sometimes struggles to fit in at Braselton Prep school in Atlanta. Despite his troubles, Justyce is heading towards an Ivy League school and becomes very close to a fellow student named Manny. Justyce’s world is suddenly turned upside-down when he is wrongfully arrested for a crime he did not commit. As he navigates his issues, he finds solace in reading and responding to old letters written by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Nic Stone presents the story with glimpses of Justyce’s diary, which gives him the insight on how to best move on.
Stop by the media center to check out a copy or read the free eBook on MackinVia, available through the district portal. Dear Justyce, the sequel, is also available for check out.
