School Attendance
School attendance is important to academic success and is a predictor of high school graduation. If a student misses 3 days over the course of a month throughout the entire school year, the student will miss 15% of the school year which is 27 days (or 5 weeks of school!)
Research shows these chronic absences can have long term effects:
* Absenteeism in kindergarten can affect whether a child develops the grit and perseverance needed to succeed in school.
* Absenteeism in preschool and kindergarten can influence whether a child will be held back in third grade.
* Absenteeism in middle and high school can predict dropout rates.
If your child has a fever or is vomiting, please keep them home for 24 hours. Please remember to call them in by 9:00 am. If your child is tired or just not feeling their best, please try to get them to school. Our teachers and Mrs. Lingenfelter communicate each day on your child's behalf. If your child is ill, we will call you to make arrangements to get your child home.
Incentives!
Again this year, any child who has perfect attendance all year long will receive 10 free pool passes to the City Pool. We will also be starting some new grade level challenges in which the grade level with the best attendance for the week earns a treat. Students with perfect attendance for the month will earn brag tags to put on their book bags. The class with the best attendance will display a traveling trophy!

Bullying Convocation
Students learned for a conflict to be bullying, the following three things all must be present:
-Must causes harm
-Happens repeatedly
-Imbalance of power (older, bigger, group, stronger)
Students then learned what to do is someone bullying them:
-Act with confidence (all students practiced confident body language - standing tall!)
-Call on someone to help (talk to a trusted adult)
-Tell yourself that it's not your fault you are in this situation
Finally, we talked about the importance of random acts of kindness in making our school, community, and world a better place to live.
