Sixteen Franklin Students Compete in Iowa State National History Day
On Monday, April 30th sixteen Franklin students traveled to the Iowa Events Center for State National History Day. These students were: Nick Burkamper, Sam Lindwall, Ethan Longwisch, Kyle Pratt, Zoey Akers, Amelia Basler, Katie Earl, Lucy Niemuth, Emily Cline, Jessica Cline, Julia Greenlee, Jessica Cline, Meena Ramadugu, Annika Twedt-Ball, Allie Hayes, Emily Oldorf, and Piper Jackman. The event started at 9:00 AM and concluded with awards at 5:00 PM.
The students competed in various categories including performance, website, and documentary.
We had several groups make it to the final round including: Meena Ramadugu with her website on the Oslo Accord, Julia Greenlee with her documentary about prohibition, the group of Zoey Akers, Amelia Basler, Lucy Niemuth, and Katie Earl with their performance about Lucy Burns and Alice Paul, and Jessica Cline with her individual performance about morality in theater.
Advancing to Nationals this summer at the University of Maryland will be Meena Ramadugu, an 8th grader, whose website titled, “The Oslo Accords: A Compromise to End Decades of Conflict” was amazing.
Alternates to Nationals is the group of: Zoey Akers, Amelia Basler, Lucy Niemuth and Katie Earl with their performance titled: “Alice Paul and Lucy Burns: Conflict and Compromise for Women’s Voting Rights.” This is also a major accomplishment to end up 3rd in the state of Iowa.
Earning a special social award was the 7th grade boys’ group of Kyle Pratt, Ethan Longwisch, Nick Burkamper, and Sam Lindwall with their group performance: Victor Frankl: The Conflict and Compromise of Finding Meaning.
All of the students enjoyed their day in Des Moines representing Franklin at the State NHD competition!
