Personal Review

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a devastatingly true but extremely interesting novel. The book portrays everything about high school from the cliques, to the feelings, to the overall affect of a young victimized girl. Main character, Melinda, struggles with her pain of being excluded in everything. She finds connection with no one, is cut off my her parents, and is reluctant to telling anyone about her deep secret.

I chose this book because I'd like to persuade everyone to read it. This novel is not only addicting to read, but it teaches and shows many lessons that all teenagers in high school should know.

“You have to know what you stand for, not just what you stand against.”
-Laurie Halse Anderson
“When people don't express themselves, they die one piece at a time.”

-Laurie Halse Anderson

“Nothing is perfect. Flaws are interesting. Be the tree.”

-Laurie Halse Anderson
