Happy Holidays
The last week before we go to break. This is sometimes a difficult week for some of our students so please be sure to monitor emotions, give space and flexibility, and give students opportunity for brain breaks and stress relief as needed.
I hope you have an excellent last week before we break and that you enjoy your time relaxing with family and friends. Store up that energy, when we get back we will hit the ground running.

In The Know
Grade Updates - Given this is the second week of the term, it is important that we have our grades updated before we head into the winter break. Please be sure to update Synergy with current grading. Parents are looking at Synergy to see what they need to do to support their students. I will be communicating with parents as well about the fact that teachers will be updating grades. Everyone is doing a good job updating grades and I am thankful for your work on this.
Happy Holidays -Please be sure to make sure that our holiday decorations are not culturally dominant. Many students do not follow Christmas and are surrounded by constant messages of a dominant Judeo Christian culture. It is important that our decor and celebration are sensitive to a variety of different cultural beliefs. Thank you for your understanding and working to meet all students perspectives.Attached is a great little article explaining why we should pay attention to how we promote the Holidays. I encourage you to give this a quick read.

Welcome Scott Johnson - After a stretch of time we were able to post, recruit, interview, and hire a new Campus Monitor. {lease welcome Scott as our newest members to our staff. Scott supports the baseball team as an assistant coach and has extensive experience in law enforcement. He is a welcome addition to our safety team and partner to Guy Okili Da Graca. We are fortunate to have this level of experience and expertise on our team. If you see Scott and Guy around please be sure to introduce yourself.
Discipline Systems - We will be engaged in a review of our discipline system on 1/6 at 1:30pm. We will be discussing the system and its components and how it functions with our campus monitors. This is a much anticipated discussion with staff and will help straighten out some misconceptions around how to handle specific concerns with students skipping class, how to address behavior concerns in class, and how to engage the system to support you in your classroom. Please know that this meeting is required as a part of your work day.

Kudos
Congratulations to Kylie Taylor (Swim Team) who took down a 15 year old school record in the 200 IM last Friday. The original record was 2:21.13 set by Andria Breeden in 2004 and was beat with a 2:20.54 on Friday. Lancers were victorious over Willamette Wolverines in their meet Friday! Excellent work Churchill Swimming!
Misael Flores - Thank you for your focus while Casandra and I were away this last week. You held down the fort (so to speak) and handled issues and concerns with grace and poise. I appreciate your professionalism and your positive attitude towards your work.
Casandra Kamens - Thank you for the time you put into developing advisory lessons. You work hard to meet the needs of both teachers and students. You take your time to make sure the lessons are fool proof and a meaningful use of time. Thank you so much for the though, time, and level of excellence you bring to our staff and school. You are very appreciated.
From Mike Sterling to Debbie Levy and Tiffany Wright - I assigned a reading from the American Studies text as homework for my 10th graders yesterday - then I realized we hadn't checked out the texts yet...During my 4th period prep I asked Tiffany if my 60 or so students could get texts this morning (periods 1 and 3). It's not really fair or nice to put that request to the library staff at the last minute, but, of course, all of the books were ready by 8:30 this morning.
