Science Fair
Lisbon Lions Lollapalooza: School-wide Enrichment Fair and Science Fair
We have much to ROAR about this year! To share the many accomplishments of our students, all Lisbon Elementary School families and friends are invited to this year's School-wide Enrichment Fair and Science Exhibit on Monday, May 20th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. here at school. Come explore classroom projects made by kindergartners to fifth graders and view products created in Curriculum Extension Units, Instructional Seminars (recess groups), and G/T Mathematics classes. Also, peruse a variety of experiments from our scientists who completed a project at home. We hope to see you there!
Note that on Wednesday, May 15th, students who have participated in a Curriculum Extension Unit, Instructional Seminar (recess group), or G/T math class this year received a letter in their classroom mailbox along with a schedule. Please ask your child to share this information with you as it contains additional details about the evening!
At the conclusion of the evening, students are encouraged to take home their individual projects that were displayed. However, please do not take home projects that are still in the process of being completed in class.
Science Fair Participants
If you completed a collection, invention, or science fair project at home, please bring it to school on Monday, May 20th in the morning, afternoon, or as you arrive to the Lollapalooza. You may bring it to the media center and set-up your project on top of any bookcase. On the night of the fair, you are encouraged to stand with your project from 7:00-7:30 to answer questions from visitors. At the conclusion of the fair, you are welcome to take your project home. We look forward to learning all about your science fair project!

Your PTA is GOING GREEN!
Starting in September, the Lisbon PTA will be supporting our Lisbon Green Ambassadors and Howard County recycling initiatives by reducing our "footprint." You will see (or NOT see) exciting changes, including significantly reducing and working to eliminate the event flyers that come home with your child. We will utilize the PTA website, www.lisbonpta.org, and our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/LisbonESPTA/ for events, signups, and volunteer needs and will send home forms only as needed. We expect this change to eliminate at least 10 reams of paper each year. Snowballs will be served in compostable cups and we will no longer use Styrofoam or plastic utensils. This change will keep over 1,000 Styrofoam cups out of the landfill. Stay tuned for more exciting details!
School Supply Recycling
Starting on May 30th there will be a box located in each pod to collect unusable or unwanted school supplies. Some Items that can be recycled or reused are: markers, crayons, glue sticks or bottles, pencils, notebooks, composition books, binders, paper, rulers, scissors, backpacks, and more! Any school or office supply in any condition (even dried out) can be put in the recycling collection box. These items will be sorted; useable items will be given to Lisbon ES and Phelps Luck ES. Unusable items will be recycled through programs from Crayola, Crazy Crayons, TerraCycle and Office Depot. Last year 10 boxes of school supplies were recycled or reused instead of going into the trash. Let’s try to double that number this year! If you have any questions please contact cathydatz@yahoo.com.
No more clipping!
Big changes are coming to the Box Tops for Education program in June. A NEW Box Tops app has been created and is scheduled to be released soon. This new app will slowly replace the need to clip Box Tops from products. The app will be easy to use and will allow family members far and wide to offer support to Lisbon Elementary School. How cool is that?! All it takes is a quick scan of your receipt and money goes toward Lisbon PTA’s events, activities, and school supplies. While this transition takes place we will continue to collect unexpired Box Tops each month, so keep them coming in and let’s exceed our goal!
PLES Book Drive
We are collecting books (new or good condition) for our HCPSS partner school. Books are needed for all reading levels. Phelps Luck ES is located in Columbia and is in need of books for classroom libraries, their media center, and for students to read over the summer. Please send in to the front office by June 7th any books you’d be willing to donate so they can be delivered before school ends.
CES Outdoor Equipment
Cradlerock Elementary is in need of outdoor equipment for recess time. Cradlerock is a Title 1 HCPSS school located in Columbia and has asked if anyone has balls, jump ropes, or other outdoor equipment they would be willing to donate. Please send in to the front office by June 5th any outdoor play equipment you’d be willing to donate.
WHC Soccer
We love our friends at WHC Soccer. Registration for the Fall 2019 League will be opening in early May and can be completed online at www.whcsoccer.org.
