Renewable Energy Resources
Chapter 5- Section 2
Solar Power
Advantages: clean and inexhaustible, doesn't run our
Disadvantages: can pollute environment if not done properly, less efficient on cloudy days
Wind Power
Advantages: nonpolluting, free
Disadvantages: wind isn't steady, a few regions have have wind strong enough for electricity
Hydroelectric Power
Advantages: available, running water is clean
Disadvantages: lakes fill with sediments , downstream erosion increases and habitats are destroyed
Geothermal
Advantages: found just about everywhere, uses steam and is clean
Disadvantage: hard to control the steam, hard to get to especially at a high elevation
Biomass
Advantages: cheap source of energy, helps reduce materials going into landfills
Disadvantages: materials pollute air, trees are cut down so habitats are destroyed
