los adjetivos
haciendo nuestro mundo y expresión más bonita! :)
Adjectives are modifiers...
Just think how boring dessert would be if it was always vanilla ice cream, no syrup, no nuts or sprinkles, no cherry? crazy.
That's how language and expression would be if we did not have adjectives. Adjectives describe or modify nouns.
FUNDAMENTALS of adjectives
Adjectives in Spanish are a little bit different from their Anglo counterparts. See some of the quirks to the adjetivo español here:
- Adjectives typically (but not 100%) FOLLOW the noun. We say "White House" they say "House White" (la Casa Blanca)...
- Adjectives must ALWAYS match or agree with the number (singular/plural) of the noun they describe and MOST always agree with its gender (masculine/feminine)... una casa blanca, dos casas blancas...
so....many....kinds..... of adjectives :)
There are lots of adjectives with specific purposes to them! Do NOT let them intimidate you, let them WORK for you!
- Ordinal numbers (primero, segundo, tercero, etc.) describe the sequence of things or events
- Demonstrative adjectives (este, esta, estos, estas) describe the proximity (or closeness) to the speaker of another person or item (esta banana y aquella manzana)
- Possessive adjectives: describe ownership, mi perro y tus zapatos
- Adjectives can even work to replace the noun so that you don't sound like a broken record... :) Me gusta el vestido negro pero en realidad prefiero el rojo al final.
