PH Scale Project

Ryan MacDonald

Definitions

A solution is defined as neutral if the concentration of hydrogen ions is the same as the concentration of hydroxide ions.

A solution is defined as acidic if the concentration of hydrogen ions is greater than the concentration of hydroxide ions.

A solution is defined as basic* if the concentration of hydrogen ions is less than the concentration of hydroxide ions.

Explanation

To complete this experiment, I dipped a PH strip into the liquid for five seconds and then took it out. I then compared the color of the square on the PH strip to the color shown on the box. Thus, I was able to find out the PH level of the liquid. I then repeated these steps 14 times to get the PH levels of all my liquids.

PH SCALE

As you can see below, the PH scale has fourteen different levels with the fourteenth being the highest. Levels 0-6 are considered acidic, 7 is neutral and 8-14 are basic.
