Happy holidays and a big thank you to everyone who helped make this winter’s Staff Appreciation gift a fantastic one!! We were able to gift three K-cup carousels, along with stacks and stacks of K-cups, and beautiful trays of bakery from Divine Delights. Thank you Mary Bender and Kelly Clark for organizing! Great job as usual!
SMS PTA would like to send out a big thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, bought baskets and purchased candy grams. 100% of the money went to SMS Gives Back. With this money we were able to raise $6,100 that will be given back to several of our SMS families. Without the help of all of you this would not be possible. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Gundlah , Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Gizzi, Mrs. Blackman and our PTA mom Mrs. Macejko. Their guidance made this years SMS Gives back amazing. This is truly the spirit of the holidays!
Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year!
Book Drive Results Are In!
***Kids’ Book Bank BOOK DRIVE 2018***
We collected 1,441 books!
OUR GOAL to have one book to represent every student in our building (1,281) was met and exceeded!!
Mrs. Randall’s and Mrs. van Besouw’s Literacy in the Community classes, as well as NEMO, completed the BOOK DRIVE on Thursday, December 20th. We are thrilled with the results.
It’s like a Christmas miracle! We dreamed that we might reach 500 books, and then we dreamed about 1,000, but then we dreamed our biggest dream yet....1,281 books, one for each student in our building. Well, we did it. You did it, plus some.
We have collected 1,441 books!
NEMO the small but mighty, stinkin’ cute, lil fish boy depended on the students and staff to dive deep to meet our goal, and we came through.
This was our very first book drive at SMS! Thank you to everyone who dove in to help with this great cause. Thank you for cleaning out your bookshelves and donating to help others.
A special thank you to the 9th period Literacy classes for creating the slideshow for the cafeteria, hanging posters, running Spirit Week, collecting books, making bookmarks, and writing inspirational quotes inside many, many, many books.
Be proud of helping others. The spirit of giving is alive and well at our school.
We know that your generosity will bring smiles and joy to a lot of children! 1,441 children, to be exact! Well done.
1440+ Books.... Wow!!!
Looking for Speakers for the Career Cafe
At the middle school, we believe it is never too early to begin exploring career interests with our students. One way in which we hope to encourage student career exploration is through the SMS Career Cafe. Throughout the school year, we would like to provide opportunities (during Lunch/IE times) for students to meet with speakers from different careers to learn about their occupations.
If you are interested in coming to SMS to speak to students about your career, please take a brief moment to fill out the Career Cafe Volunteer Sign Up form. Speakers need to be available from about 10:00AM-1:00PM. Please fill out this form by December 21st if you are interested. Thank you in advance for helping to inspire our students!

Candle Lighting Remembrance For Students
Email Alerts for Parents
Our school uses Securly to keep students safe on their school-issued devices. As part of the solution, we have given you access to the free SecurlyHOME app. On December 14th, you will receive a “Welcome Email” from Securly, and you will be able to download the App. You’ll also start to receive a weekly email report each Monday containing a sample of your child’s online activity over the previous week.
Here is a letter explaining the app and how to access information. Please note that you will need to activate the account.
