OPPA Blue Knights Parent Newsletter
WELCOME BACK
We’ve had a great start to the school year here at OPPA. Students are adjusting to their new schedules and getting to know their teachers. We thank you for your patience in the drop-off and pick-up lines. Usually, the volume of traffic lessens after the first couple of weeks. Please note, early pick up ends at 2:30. If you need to pick up your child early, please do so before 2:30. Please remember that school begins at 8:00. If your child would like breakfast, the doors open at 7:45, and the cafeteria closes at 8:00. We will begin assigning lockers in the next couple of weeks.

IMPORTANT DATES
September 12th begins iReady testing. iReady is a test diagnostic that shows your child’s reading and math grade level. We use this diagnostic three times per year to track growth and proficiency. Encourage your scholar to do their best, so we can get an accurate picture of where they are! If you would like to know your child’s scores, please contact Mrs. Miller.
One way to improve your child’s reading skills is to have him/her read 15 minutes a day. Children get better at reading with practice, and you will be amazed how much your child will grow with this consistent practice. Your child can also practice his/her math skills for free with Kahn Academy online. Students with strong number sense practice math skills fluently, and consistent practice will build their confidence in mathematics.
We will also begin our Panorama survey, which asks students about their social and emotional well-being at school. We use these results to develop supports and interventions.
Our 1st OPPA football game opener will be a scrimmage against Chandler Park Middle School on Wednesday, September 14th at Oak Park High School Field at 4:30 pm. The cost is $2 for kids and $3 for adults so please come out and show your support!
September 22nd is OPPA’s open house. We welcome you to meet your child’s teachers and the rest of the school staff. This is a great opportunity to see what your middle schooler is up to at OPPA. The Open House will be from 5:30-7:00. We hope to see you there!
