The Pershing Elementary Weekly Newsletter

Principal Message

Good Evening Pershing Families!

Thank you to all of you for hanging in there with us every day through various challenges! Your children are showing up and working hard! We know it has been a very difficult time and are thankful for your partnership. Please, if you continue to have any challenges with technology, please call our office at 916-979-8076 or email me at kendra.shelton@sanjuan.edu.

When attempting to navigate these Technology tools for learning, if your child is not able to access the tools because of technical problems or internet connectivity issues, email your child's teacher and your child will be marked present. Please also reach out to our office by calling 916-979-8076 to get assistance.

Teachers are also tracking "engagement" in learning, as well. Students who attend their daily Zoom meetings, who participate and interact in Zoom, who complete Google Classroom and See Saw assignments, and other agreed upon work from the teacher, are marked as "engaged" in distance learning.

Progress Reports will be available through the Parent Portal the week of October 6th for 1st grade through 6th grades.

Mental Health Resources: Our main goal is to help students connect, continue to learn and make progress, while supporting their social-emotional well-being. If your child needs additional support for his or her mental health, staff and families may access a new referral resource through SJUSD called Solace.

School Funding

Every student who is under a certain income, learning English, or in foster care generates 20% more funding. In districts where at least 55% of students are high-need, they receive even more funding. The dollars generated by high-need students are spent to increase or improve services for low-income students, English learners and foster youth.
