A quick update on the social studies program. In MN studies we’ve been exploring the early fur trade, and will have a guest speaker in class next Wednesday to demonstrate birch bark canoes. In government, we broke down the Electoral College and the role of the executive branch, as well as held a mock school presidential election. In 7th-8th, we examined Latin American culture, and created some awesome luchador mask (Mexican rassling). The 9th-10th graders applied the 10 techniques of smart growth to the city of Hendricks, and also launched their own NHL franchise in Canada. Lastly, the 5th graders explored the different viewpoints on Columbus, practiced their Veteran’s Day skit, and participated in the Columbian exchange.

9th/10th Grade: We are studying the phrases and how to properly use them and punctuate them in a sentence.
7th/8th Grade: We are completing google class assignments on the parts of speech and common literary elements. Next, we will be looking into close reading and paraphrasing of academic readings.
