APRES Welcome Back SWIM August '21
An Extraordinary Place to Learn
A Message from Principal Wilson
Greetings Dolphin Family,
Welcome back Dolphins! I am so excited to welcome you back to another extraordinary year of teaching and learning. Can you believe summer is over and it is time to return to school? Yes, the summer was short, but I am ready to jump right in to reacclimating our scholars to school, addressing learning disruption and focusing on interventions to propel our Dolphins forward. I am committed to making sure every one of our scholars maximizes their academic potential.
Our school day will look and feel different as we will welcome all of our scholars back to school for in-person learning. Differentiating and personalizing instruction will be even more attainable in the face-to-face environment. We have learned so much from the pandemic, and will continue to navigate this school year with an abundance of caution keeping the safety of our students, staff and families at the forefront.
With this being said, we will continue with our carpool procedures implemented during the 2020-2021 school year. Parents/Guardians will be asked to remain in the car during drop off and pick up. There will be no walk-up options for carpool this year. Thus, it is critical that all car rider families adhere to the drop off and pick up times 7:10am-7:35am and 2:20pm-2:45pm daily.
On campus visitation during the school day will be by appointment only to assist with managing the number of people in the building throughout the day. This is another safety measure we are continuing to keep in place for the 2021-2022 school year. Should you wish to schedule an appointment to visit during the school day, please contact the front office to schedule time.
Effective Monday, August 9, 2021, it is mandatory that all students wear masks and maintain physical distancing to the extent possible this school year. We will utilize the virtual (TEAMS) platform for all parental engagement activities. I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we transition back to school safely.
While uniforms are not mandatory, we highly encourage all scholars to wear school uniforms. Our colors are royal blue, yellow, and white. Scholars may wear royal blue, yellow or white tops, with navy blue or khaki bottoms. I know there is a lot of controversy around uniforms. However, wearing uniforms lends itself to an authentic blending of friend groups and less school disruptions due to dress code. If you choose not to participate in our uniform dress please be sure to adhere to all district and school-wide expectations related to dress code.
All 3rd grade through 5th grade scholars will continue to receive laptops for the school year. Please make sure your scholar has completed all Microsoft update prompts before Monday, and brings the device to school on the first day. This device will be used during the upcoming school year. Thank you in advance for ensuring scholars are taking care of the devices loaned to them by the district. If your student receives a notification to update his/her device, please follow the steps for the Windows updates being pushed out by the district.
Our theme for the upcoming school year is "All of Us", understanding that No One of Us is as Good/Great as All of Us! We recognize our scholars have experienced some learning disruption since March of 2020, and it will take ALL OF US, our school, parents and community to recover and regain momentum. We are committed to ensuring our scholars get the education they deserve by putting systems and processes in place to support them. Randolph has been fortunate to acquire new staff to help support all scholars. We certainly will continue to need your support at home.
Thank you to those families who were able to attend our Back to School Block Party. Thank you for supporting the Sandtown Pub and Kona Ice Trucks, as those proceeds have benefited the school. Use the link below to access the classroom tours so that you can see the space your son or daughter will be in as they embark on this year's academic journey.
The first 10 days of school are the most critical days of the school year. These are the dates the district uses to determine if enrollment has met the requirements to keep the entire staff at a school. There will be no class changes prior to the first 10 days of school. All scholars must be accounted for before we consider any class changes. The form to request class changes will be made available after the 10 day window. All class changes are at the discretion of the administrator and are not guaranteed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding of this process.
A. Philip Randolph will be a cashless school during the 2021-2022 school year. All payments will be made through the Online School Payment (OSP) system. Grade-level and class fees and payments will be paid a la carte by activity and each payment must be made through OSP.
Be mindful that the City of South Fulton speed zone lights and cameras will be operating beginning the morning of Monday, August 9, 2021. Please monitor your speed to avoid costly ticketing. The school is not responsible for the speed cameras. All speeding violation concerns should be addressed with the City of South Fulton. Keeping our students safe is our number one priority. SLOW DOWN!
Breakfast AND Lunch are free to all students at A. Philip Randolph this school year, thanks to a federal grant the FCS nutrition department received. Families will still need to visit the district website to complete the Free and Reduced lunch form, as completion of that form directly impacts our Title I funding. Use the nutrition link below to access the form.
I look forward to welcoming our Dolphins back on Monday morning to kick off our EXTRAORDINARY school year. Remember: It Takes #AllofUS
