Paying Kindness Forward
November is a month to be thankful and practice kindness. In fact, World Kindness day is held each November 13. In our Dempsey Helpers meeting, we discussed how kindness is contagious and how easy it is to make someone's day by showing him/her kindness. This goes with our school motto of the "Power of One."
Dempsey Helpers watched a video entitled "Kindness Boomerang" about paying kindness forward. Our students were inspired! We have challenged our Helpers to see how many items they can check off in the "Great Dempsey Kindness Challenge." The Kindness Challenge includes items such as pick up someone's dropped belongings, hold the door open for five people, and slip a note in your friend's backpack. With every act completed, kindness will catch on until it takes over our school making Dempsey a better place!
Three of our Helpers came up with the idea to put a positive post-it note on each student's locker. We spent part of our meeting discussing positive affirmations that make us feel good and then set about writing over 850 post-it notes! Helpers finished the meeting by sticking a note to all student lockers and teacher doors. Upon coming to school the next day, Dempsey students were surprised with a kind note to start the day.
We invite all students to participate in the Kindness Challenge. If your student would like to participate, have him/her contact their grade level counselor or download the form from the Dempsey Guidance website here. Forms can also be picked up in the office.
