News You Can Use at the SDMS/SDHS Library

SDCSC gets LSTA grant to buy class set of Nooks!

SDCSC Libraries was awarded a Library Services Technology Act grant for up to $10,000 to add 4 projectors and 30 Color nooks to our collection. These items will be used with classes to improve use of the school catalog, especially among elementary students. They will make their way into SDHS and SDMS eventually though...so don't worry. Once these items arrive and are catalogued they will be put to use! Thanks to the Indiana State Library for their generosity. Also, thanks to SDCSC admin for the matching funds and making this a priority.

Divergent Discussion Success; Bring on the Movie!

The Library hosted the SDHS book discussion on Divergent in January. The dystopic story tells of a future world that tries to make things more planned by having teens select the tribe they are going to spend their life with--even if it means abandoning their parents.

Peggy Dean of APLD led the discussion after a bit of yummy snacks. A great crowd turned out--considering the discussion was continually postponed due to the weather. The movie debuts March 21.

SDMS Spelling Bee Selects Winner

Corben Slack was the final winner of the 2014 SDMS Spelling Bee, though it was very close between Corben and Leslie Mathes. This bee involved 20 rounds of play--most of it played between the two final spellers! Congrats to both of them and Good Luck to Corben who made it through the online round to be invited to the Scripps Spelling Bee that will be held Feb. 22 at the Cincinnati School of Creative and Performing Arts.
