Copeland Hoofbeat
April 12, 2018
From the Principal
I love our Copeland traditions! Our 4th graders really showed their creative sides at our Adjective Hat Parade last week. Our Colts are the best. Last week, our students also enjoyed Pie in the Face as our A Team fulfilled a promise if our Boosterthon fundraising efforts reached a certain amount. We fell a little short of our ultimate goal, and I was not slimed this year. I am sure the students will get me next year! Thanks again for all your support of our fundraisers.
We have completed round one of our STAAR testing. I am confident that our students did well. Our last round of STAAR testing will take place on May 14th, 15th, and 16th when our 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking their Math and Reading tests. Our 5th graders will have an opportunity to retest on those dates if they did not pass the first administrations. As always, we will have no visitors on those three days. Thank you for understanding.
Our first grade students will enjoy a field trip to Dewberry Farms on Friday, April 13th, and our Life Skills students will go to Rock the Spectrum on Wednesday, April 25th. Our fabulous PTO funds these field trips for our students. Thanks for your support of our PTO.
Our lost and found is overflowing again! We will place all items on the stage in the cafeteria next week (April 16-20). Please remind your child to look during their lunch times for lost items. You may come to school as well to take a look. All items not claimed will be donated at the end of the school day on Friday, April 20th.
We are all so excited for our Spring Book Fair (April 16th - 20th). We hope you will join us for family night on Tuesday, April 17th. Pre K/Kindergarten registration will be April 18th. Choral Festival will be held at the Berry Center on April 19th. There are so many talented CFISD students performing there. That event is a must see for all!

From the Registrar
From the Nurse
Dear Parents,
Should you find evidence of lice on your student when you are doing the recommended weekly head check, please notify the clinic. Your student must be checked by the nurse before they can return to class. Home care and treatment will also be shared with you. If you have any questions please call the clinic.
Also, the Harris County Health Department recently alerted area schools of an increase in influenza-like illness. To protect the health of our community, please remind your students about the importance of covering their cough/sneeze, encourage frequent and thorough hand-washing throughout the day and consider obtaining an influenza vaccine. Students with fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, chills, cough, sore throat, headache or body aches should be kept home from school and should be evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider for appropriate treatment. Your assistance with these measures will keep our community well.
Please adhere to the District/State policy regarding fevers.
III. Temperatures
The Texas Department of State Health Services defines a fever as an oral temperature above or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.
The District, as mandated by The Texas Administrative Code of the Department of State Health Services, requires you keep your child home until he /she has been fever free for 24 hours without requiring fever reducing medication. This allows the child to recover and prevents unnecessary exposure of classmates to potential contagious illnesses.
Thank you,
