Let's Journey Together
Dear Catechists,
The Church it her infinite wisdom invites us during this season of Lent to join Christ in His 40 days in the desert for a time of preparation and purification for Easter, the climax of the Church’s celebration and our Christian lives.
In this time, we prepare our hearts and our lives by getting rid of the things like sin, pride or fear that stand in the way of giving ourselves completely to Him. We ask God to purify our hearts through the Sacrament of Reconciliation and works of mercy to make them ready for Christ’s Resurrection.
As we enter into Lent, I am looking forward to journeying with you and the students in this season of spiritual preparation. Let's challenge and encourage each other as Catechists (as those who want to model our faith to the youth that we teach) to enter into Lent this year taking things one step further than you have before. How so?
- If you gave up pop or candy or coffee, use the money you would have spent on those things to give to the poor.
- If you gave up Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other social media, use the extra time you now have to pray more. Click here for a list of great apps for use during Lent (the Lentsanity one is pretty cool).
- If your usual prayer life includes Sunday mass and the daily Rosary, try to add on something new such as reading the Bible for 10 minutes a day or visit Jesus in the Eucharist.
The word "Lent" means "Spring," so my prayer for each of you is that you will be refreshed, renewed, and ready to bloom when we leave the desert and celebrate the Risen Christ at the end of these 40 days of Lent.
Read the rest of this bulletin for information on resources and events that will help you, your families and the youth that you teach make the most of this time in the desert.
In Christ,
Chi
(PS. If there is anyone who didn't give up Facebook for Lent ... could you please share the link to this bulletin on our Teacher Facebook group for me? :-) Thank you!!)
GLVN Challenge Begins!
This year, students will earn tickets, and they can exchange them any time throughout the GLVN Challenge for all sorts of fun prizes. It's a little like Chuck E Cheese. This way the students are really just challenging themselves (versus competing against others). Last year's competition got a little to competitive, and so we wanted to change it up a little this year to keep it fun.
Challenge activities will be handed out before the Mass time, and are always due the following Sunday to earn the points for the specific activities. No late submissions will be accepted. More details about the Challenge, including how students can earn and redeem their tickets, will be provided to you and the kids this Sunday.
For some activities, we may need extra help from teachers/TAs, so let me know if we can keep your name on our "help" list. Mostly, we ask that you encourage your students to participate! It's fun, there's incentives, and they will learn a lot about their faith in the process.
