Update from the Superintendent
Team Kenton and extended family:
The Kenton County School District is actively monitoring the number of Covid-19 cases in Northern Kentucky. The district has seen a rise in positive cases due to the Omicron variant; however, we are still just over 1% of our total student/staff population for the week. Reminder, our data week is Friday through Thursday and we review multiple data sets in their entirety each Friday morning. The KCSD continues to recommend but is not requiring wearing masks and also recommends getting the Covid-19 vaccine and booster. We also recommend that you consult your family medical provider for any questions regarding the vaccine as our recommendation is based solely upon the recommendation of the Kentucky Department of Public Health and Local Health Department. Although the CDC shared new guidance regarding quarantines and isolation, they have now changed their guidance to include a special section for schools, which does not significantly change any of our previous guidance. The district will continue to follow the existing guidance at this time. To ensure that our TEAM and extended family has more context for our positive cases/numbers, we will be adding a positivity percentage for each school and the district very soon. For more information, here is a link to the KCSD Covid-19 web page. Additional resources and information are listed below.
We appreciate the continued support and flexibility during this challenging time and will update with new communication as needed.

Information on Inclement Weather
- The Kenton County School District has once again completed an approved application through the Kentucky Department of Education for NTI (Non Traditional Instruction) days to be included in the district calendar as student attendance days for the school year due to a potential need to close for our facilities to in person instruction due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. This means that if our schools are closed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, teachers and students will not report for in-person instruction. However, teachers will post lessons and assignments for students to complete at home. Please note that NTI days are not like synchronous instruction when schools were closed due to COVID-19. The use of NTI days will allow a continuation of instruction for all students due to an emergency situation or weather. More information on the structure of NTI Days is available here.
- The Kenton County School District utilizes an automated messaging system to alert our stakeholders of school closures due to inclement weather. If you would like to have your phone number added or removed from our automated calling list, please click here.
