Monomoy Regional High School
Message from Principal Burkhead
Welcome Back!
At last year’s graduation we were blessed with so many inspiring words of wisdom from our student speeches. I was struck by one profound statement made by 2016 class Co-President Molly Doncaster when, in her speech, she stated “Monomoy is like a home away from home.” This resonated with me, as our teachers and administrators had been having this exact conversation in our Culture Committee meetings. We want our school to be a safe, caring, exciting and positive place for our students, families, community members, faculty and staff. This year we will be spending time bringing our school improvement plan to life (click link for our complete School Improvement Plan https://drive.google.com/a/monomoy.edu/file/d/0B6-2IRFs1AfrUUlOOFBWdkpielU/view?usp=sharing). A major focus of that plan is establishing a set of “Core Values” that WE all can believe in and follow as a school community. I was taught that the place we live, made up of concrete, steel, wood and glass, constitutes a house. The core values within that house, such as love, empathy, pride and family traditions are what make it a home. We look forward to working with our Monomoy students, their families and the Monomoy community this year to create a set of core values that will validate our commitment to making Monomoy Regional High School our true “Home Away From Home.” I look forward to meeting you personally in the upcoming year and am excited for our students to fill our classrooms with some of the most dedicated, hardworking and compassionate educators and support staff in the state.

Buses will drop students off at the "Community Entrance" at the rear of the building.
Important Paperwork:
Although we pride ourselves in our drive to become a paperless school, there are certain documents that will need to be sent home with your child, signed and returned as soon as possible. Your child will get these documents during first period on the second day of school, September 7, 2016. A speedy return of these documents (to the main office) is appreciated, and will allow us to update your child's information in our data bases quickly and efficiently.
Student/Parent Handbook:
The MRHS Student-Parent Handbook is available online - click link http://www.monomoy.edu/uploaded/High_School/MRHS_Documents/HANDBOOK_FY17_edited_08-26-16.pdf Students and parents should familiarize themselves with the contents of the handbook and return the Student-Parent Handbook and Computer Use Sign-off sheet to the Main Office by Monday, September 12, 2016. This “sign-off” sheet will be part of the packet given to your child the 2nd day of school.

Curriculum Night: September 26, 2016 6:30-8:30pm
One of the most effective ways to promote student growth academically, behaviorally, and socially is through a partnership that bridges the school and home together. Curriculum Night provides an opportunity for parents to meet school personnel, learn about school wide and course expectations and ask questions. See you there!
Student Chromebooks:
We are excited to announce that each student will continue to receive a Chromebook computer to enhance their learning at MRHS and better prepare them for the digital world. A contract will be sent home on September 7 for you to sign. All returning students should bring their laptops to school and new students and incoming 8th graders will be provided their own chromebooks during the first full week of school.
School Pictures:
School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 13. All students must have their picture taken for ID purposes. Information will be distributed to students interesting in purchasing a photo package.
Thank you!
Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to providing your child the highest caliber education and learning experience.
Parents Wanted! School Advisory Council
We look to build a strong school advisory council this year to guide our important work. A school council is a representative, school building-based committee that meets quarterly and is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and students. School councils are to assist principals in:
1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
2. Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
3. Reviewing the annual school building budget
4. Formulating a school improvement plan
5. Review the student handbook
If you are interested please send an email message principal Burkhead at bburkhead@monomoy.edu indicating your interest in serving on the school council.
