April Assessments
One Crazy Month
A Note from Mr. Nakano
Expect limited homework throughout the month to allow students the opportunity to rest prior to each testing session.
As a result, volunteering has been cancelled for this month, due to all of our activities. We are so thankful for all of your help this year, as it has helped build our classroom community and the abilities of our students.
Smarter Balanced Tests
Even if they bring in their own device, the students will be using Canyon View issued Chromebooks in class to take these assessments. Below are the dates of our testing, including our Math Placement Test at the end of the month.

Sierra Vista Middle School Visitation
We are asking that you and your family make arrangements to have your child at Sierra Vista Middle School at 8:00 AM in the morning.
We encourage you to make carpool arrangements to alleviate parking lot congestion, as well as help out families who are unable to make the trip in the morning.
We want to ensure that all students are able to participate in this great opportunity so, please let us know if your child is unable to find a ride to Sierra Vista. We will make arrangements so all students can participate.

Smarter Balanced Tests - Mathematics
We are wrapping up unit 4 on Friday and will adjust our focus primarily on geometry for the week after.
Students are also encouraged to use their STAR Math activities chart for reference on skills they can focus on for practice.

We are given no information regarding the length of test, how many questions, the breakdown, or even given practice questions. Our best recommendation is to review the Springboard textbook for best practice.
Wednesday, April 27
The students will be taking a basic skills test this day. It is purely computational.
Thursday, April 28
This is the section of the test in which the students will, not only have to find the right answer, but be able to explain it in words and with their work. Show everything!
