1st Grade News
Hello first grade parents. Can you believe we are half way through the year? The kids are hard at work in room 26 and learning so much. I am amazed daily at how much they have grown since the beginning of the year.
We have just completed Topic 8 in math, Tens and Ones. You can look for the tests to be coming home in homework folders this week. Topic 9, Comparing Numbers to 100, is a short one and we should be having our test by the middle of next week.
In science we have begun a unit on objects in the sky. By the end of this unit students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the features of the sky and patterns of the sun and moon as per the Common Core science standard 1Sc.
In language arts we are answering the question 'How do animals bodies help them?' by reading a variety of stories about special features that animals have. We are continuing to work on our comprehension skills, sequencing and finding the plot. We are also looking at homophones this week and continue to work on alphabetical order.
- We will begin swimming lessons next Tuesday, February 2 from 10:30-11:30. Please sign and return the permission slip this week. Students need to come to school with their swimsuit on under their clothes along with a towel and goggles. Only Ri-Katak students will be allowed to shower after the lessons.
- February 3 at 9:30 there is an assembly in the elementary gym to visit with AFN cheerleaders and mascots. You are welcome to join us.
