The Second Grade Scoop - Ms. Hy
September 1, 2017
What in the World is the Second Grade Scoop?!
About Ms. Hy
I graduated from Texas Tech University, if you didn't already know. I subbed for 6 months in middle school at Birdville ISD and then was landed in fifth grade here at Bransford. I couldn't ask for a better family, than BES!
I have two brothers that I am very close with. One is 28 and one who is 24. My older brother unfortunately lives in Houston. I am very close with my mom, she is my best friend, so I am sure the kids will be seeing her a lot. They have already met both my parents! :) I grew up in Grapevine and attended school in GCISD.
I am very excited to be your kids teacher and for an AMAZING year! Please don't hesitate to call or email me at any time. If you are getting my emails and would like to be removed please let me know, or if someone is not and would like to please let me know.

Handwriting & Spelling
Spelling will be individualized this year which means that not everyone will have the same lists. Spelling lists will change every 2 weeks and tested on Fridays. Please check the weekly S'more to see if your child has a spelling test the next week. Students will have activities assigned to practice their words. Students may also use Spelling City to study at home as well.
All students are expected to secure the K and 1st "In a Snap" Words. The 2nd grade list will be introduced this year.

What is Arts Integration? Actor's Toolbox?
ACTOR'S TOOLBOX...All actors have their tools. They include control of body, control of voice, imagination, concentration (focus) and cooperation (collaboration). This becomes the basis for our classroom management. It empowers students to take ownership and be responsible for their own behavior. It helps build skills necessary to establish a sense of self-control, accountability, and team building. We refer to students' choices as "strong" or "weak" vs. "good" or "bad".

iPads!
- Students will need to bring their charged iPads to school everyday. Please help your child with a plan at home for use, charging, and packing for school.
- A "Home Use" contract will be sent home September 1st. iPads will be sent home beginning September 5th. We have stressed to children that their school iPad is a learning tool, not a toy.
- Please do not create a passcode on the iPad.
- Students need headphones or earbuds that they keep at school.
