Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
We have noticed that a few students are wearing Spacetalk smart watches recently. We would prefer if the watches were not brought to school at all; they are expensive and not necessary at school for learning purposes. If your child needs to contact a parent during the school day they can talk to their teacher or the office staff. As these watches allow students to make calls, send messages and take photos, they need to be handed to the office at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of the day. We will take care of the watch during the day, but take no responsibility if they are damaged or go missing. We understand that parental controls can disable phone and photo functions during the school day, however, it is not practical for teachers to be checking this on a daily basis.
School Production
Poseidon's Tale of the Deep Blue Sea - is only two weeks away.
Tickets for the shows can be purchased via the School Shop (myKindo) or directly from the school office.
Please note that all tickets purchased via myKindo generate an email receipt which will be your ticket to attend the show. Please print out or keep a copy on your phone to present at the door for entry.
- 16th November 6:30 pm - tickets are $20 each
- 17th November 12:00 pm matinee - tickets are $10 each and those under 5 years old are free
- 17th November 6:30 pm - tickets are $20 each
Everyone who attends must have a ticket as seating is limited and there are health and safety regulations (for numbers in the building) for the Bethlehem College Performing Arts Centre that we must adhere to. Please be aware that evening performances do tend to sell out. We are unable to offer under 5s a free seat for the evening performances. Please do not bring any food or drink into the Centre.
Our New Entrants and Year 1 students will be attending the matinee performance on the Thursday with their class.
The cost of their tickets and the bus will be covered by the school.
To date, we have only had one TPS family/business partner with the school as a sponsor for the production, thank you Academy Motor Inn.
If your business is interested in joining us to support The Arts programme, please see the attached information.
THE T.P.S. WAY
I am very pleased to announce that our book, THE T.P.S. WAY, written and illustrated by 2022 TPS students, has been professionally printed and we are selling these for $15 each at the office and school shop. We were able to create the book through the assistance of the Ministry of Education's Creatives Fund which provided funding for a 'creative' to work with the school. In this instance, former TPS teacher, Natalie Ward, has worked with our students and staff to lead this project.
Follow the adventures of George, the skateboarding dog,
who has just moved into Arundel Street.
George decides to explore TPS after hours and gets lost.
Some friendly TPS characters come to the rescue and share some skills and strategies that help George to navigate the challenge he is facing
..... because that's the TPS way.
Every class/whānau group created a page/illustration for the book and a core group of senior students researched and constructed the text. A group of senior students, with skills in art, worked on developing the illustrations of the main characters. See some sample pages below. A copy of the book is available to view in the school office. It is a very special memento of the school year and for our school and it would make a great Christmas gift.
A very warm welcome to Owen and Elliot Pearce and to Travis Januszkiewicz. It's great to have you and your family join our TPS team.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.

We are all in this together

Sponsorship Information
Year 0/1 Show - By the Sea
Come and join us as we take a trip By the Sea
As the Year 0/1 children are not involved in the school production at Bethlehem College, they will instead perform some songs and dances for you in the school hall on Friday 25th November, 11:45am-12:30pm. Families are welcome to come and watch then join their children for lunch after the show.
Gumboot Friday
A small group of students delivered the TPS entries into the Gumboot Friday colouring competition. This competition is run by Tauranga Airport to support and promote Gumboot Friday which raises funds for free children's counselling. The lucky students were rewarded with a ride in the airport fire truck.
Homestay students 2023
Next year, we may be able to host students from other countries at TPS, for short educational visits.
As a result of this, we are asking for expressions of interest from TPS families who would be willing to open up their homes to Homestay an international student in 2023. Hosting an international student is a great opportunity for our students to understand the world as a global place, with many different cultures, traditions, values and beliefs.
Homestay Information:
- The basic requirements for each student include having a room to themselves and the provision of food.
- All members of the household 18 years of age and over, will need to be police vetted (via the school).
- There would be an expectation that you share your home and NZ culture with the student.
- Families who host an international student are provided with remuneration - $60 per adult, and/or $45 per child, per day. Homestays can vary from 5 days to 2 weeks in duration.
If this is something that interests you, we would provide further support, guidance and more detailed information for potential Homestay families. Please contact Cathy via email: dp@tauranga.school.nz, if your family would consider hosting an International Student for a short stay.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply.

Scholastic Books and Library Help
As some of you may be aware, our school is able to earn reward points through the Scholastic book ordering system, which then enables us to stock our library with quality books. We are in need of a parent volunteer to oversee this program (it mostly involves sorting books into classes once they are delivered).
We would also love some parent volunteers who are familiar with alphabetical ordering of books and the Dewey Decimal System to help with shelving library books (any amount of time during the school day is fine).
Please email Jana Smith (jsmith@tauranga.school.nz) if you are interested in either of these volunteer roles. Thank you!
