Youth Mental Health First Aid
Prairie Lakes AEA will offer Youth Mental Health First Aid training on June 15 in Pocahontas. This eight-hour training course is the initial help offered to a person developing a mental health or substance use problem, or experiencing a mental health crisis.
The training will be held from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch on your own. There is no charge to participate. Class is limited to 30 participants.
This training also meets the recent legislation requirement of one hour of suicide prevention training for school districts.
What Participants Learn
- Risk factors and warning signs of mental health and substance use problems
- Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis and substance use
- A 5-step action plan to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or in crisis
- Available evidence-based professional, peer and self-help resources
