Miner Mondays Last One

Placerita Jr. High School - June 3, 2019

This Week at Placerita

Good Morning All...

Here we are... The last official Miner Mondays for the 18-19 school year. We have had a good year and I know we all look forward to a restful and relaxing summer. I wish you all the best for a great break!

The Last day of the year will be Thursday, June 6th. Thursday will also be a minimum day releasing at 12:00 Noon.

The main activities this week are for 8th graders. Tuesday after school from 2:45-5:15 PM the 8th Grade Bash will take place place in the quad at Placerita. It will be a fun time for everyone.

The 8th Grade Magic Mountain Field Trip will be on Wednesday. This is an annual event with all the other Jr. High Schools in the SCV. It will be a fun day for all.

Please continue to remind your students that the window is now open for Online Registration for next year!

See the letter below from the District Tech Department on how to get started. Feel free to remind your students that this has to be completed before you can start school next year.

Everyone has the ability to get ready for next year right now. This does not mean that we will not send out a packet and students have to come in the summer. We will still have summer check in for photos and there will be a packet but it will be much smaller. Eighth grade parents can do the same thing to be ready for Hart in the fall if they have not started already. Please see the instructional letters attached for specific directions so you can be knowledgeable if student ask questions.. We will have regular reminders so we can get everyone complete as soon as possible.

This Fall we will be beginning several things that create more incentives for our students to behave in a positive manner that will be connected to Miner PRIDE. You will learn more about that when we return in August. There might even be a Summer Edition of Miner Mondays with more information...

We have some faculty members that we are going to miss next year, Deb Johnson, Kathryn Spula, and Tim LeMaster. They have great shoes to fill and we have found some new staff to be in their positions.

Andrea Blade (AKA - Andie) will be teaching English in the Fall. She is a Palcerita Alum and has a seventh grader starting here in the fall. She is coming to us from Sierra Vista where she has been teaching English as well.

Karen Long will be our Director of Music in the fall. She is coming to us with 12 years of experience and the last four years she has been one of the directors in the Newhall District. Many of our students already know her from being in the bands at their elementary schools.

Nicole Rosenkilde will be teaching social studies this fall. She come to us from her student teaching at Valencia last fall semester and substituting around the District this year.

Also we have a few other positions that we have changes in or that have been created.

Elizabeth Renfrow will be our new Instructional Coach for next year. She comes with some great ideas and ready to jump into the world of PD for next year.

Donnie LaMarr will be our Technology PD Specialist. He did such a great job this year training many of us on multiple uses of different applications for the classroom that we would like him doing it regularly.

We also have a new Site Wellness Coordinator position that the District has announced. If you are interested please let me know by the end of the week.

Have a great final week...

The Final Gerry Brooks of the Year

This is another funny one from Gerry. I saw him live last weekend and he was excellent. It wasn't just about the comedy. He had a great purpose for his presentation. It was like going to a mini conference on current issues in education. Some of our staff have already informed me that they would like to implement the plan that Gerry talks about in this video next year :-)
