From the Desk of the Principal
There are 12 days to the beginning of Advent.
In order to begin preparation for Advent with the children and families, I am presenting to you and the children the TWELVE DAYS OF WELCOME by Katie Cook.
Each day I will post a Welcoming Activity that you may want to talk with your child or children about. It is important that the children have talked with a parent/guardian or another grown up before they do any of these activities.
I hope you will participate in these activities with your child or children so they begin feeling the true meaning of Advent.
Thanks,
--Kevin
TWELVE DAYS OF WELCOME
DAY 1-November 9, 2015-Monday
- Think of someone in your class who does things that make it hard for you to like him or her. Think of something nice to do for that person. You might consider praying for him or her.
Day 2-November 10, 2015-Tuesday
- Find out about someone in your church or school who is sick and make a get-well card for him or her. Perhaps you could encourage your whole class to do this.
Day 3-November 11, 2015-Wednesday
- Make a Christmas stocking for a homebound person in your family or in your church or school.
Day 4-November 12, 2015-Thursday
- Encourage a group to go to a nursing home and sing Christmas carols for the residents.
Day 5-November 13, 2015-Friday
- Make a welcome basket for someone new in your school, church or neighborhood
- Help your neighbor with their fall yard work.
- Make a handmade Christmas ornament or gift we can share with our neighbors in the apartments next door.
- Give up one of your gifts for a child whom you know won’t get much for Christmas.
- Pray for the people in Paris
- Pray for all those who have been victims of terrorism
- Encourage your family to “adopt” a refugee family. Each family member could give a gift to each of the members of the refugee family.
- Find out about immigration laws in your state. Ask a leader to help you understand them. Consider writing a letter to your state legislator. A letter from a young person makes a huge difference.

The Hour of Code is Coming - 12/7-12/13
Dear Parents,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.
Our Hour of Code is a statement that St. Paul School is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. I encourage you to volunteer, reach out to local media, share the news on social media channels and consider hosting additional Hour of Code events in the community.
This is a chance to change the future of education in Louisville, KY.
See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word.
Sincerely,
Kevin Brever
EdChoice KY - Scholarship Tax Credit Programs
Parents and families,
The 2016 Kentucky General Assembly is almost upon us. One important issue that will be brought up in Frankfort is Scholarship Tax Credit Programs. Parental choice is essential for quality education and scholarship tax credits will enable more parents to make that choice, no matter their economic standing.
Over the next few months, you will hear about this issue from EdChoice KY. The coalition is educating the Commonwealth on Scholarship Tax Credit programs which allow individuals, businesses and banks to contribute money to a 501(c)(3) scholarship granting organization and in return, donors will receive a tax credit to offset their state tax liability. The scholarships ensure that all students have the opportunity to obtain the education they deserve at a school that best suits their educational needs.
