February 23, 2020
Parents and Students,
Spring Break is fast approaching, but before we get to a needed break, this is a good time to check in with your students regarding their college grades. Have your student login to their TCC account and review their progress together. Some students might need some guidance on how to finish up strong after Spring Break! If you have concerns, please contact your student's Pathways teacher.
This week we will host the rained out soccer game from last week on Wednesday evening and then our students will compete in volleyball on Thursday evening at the TCC gym. Come out and support our students.
Our UIL One Act and UIL Academic teams are gearing up for district competition. The month of March will be exciting times for them!
Reminder to Parents for drop-off and pick-up. When dropping off in the morning, please drop your student off with your car heading back to Grapevine. It helps the traffic move smoothly. Also, at pick - up, please park in front of the empty TCC warehouse. The buses need to use the parking lot towards the south make the turn. Cars parked in that area create congestion. And it becomes a safety issues with students walking to their bus, buses trying to make the turn and parents in cars picking up their student. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

On March 4 for the first time ever, we will be offering the SAT to all 11th grade students for free! We have reserved Center Corner here on the TCC campus, and students need to be there and ready to test by 8:30 AM.
Juniors are automatically signed up to test, but they can decline if they want; however, students who have not taken the SAT should definitely give it a try.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Counseling News:
We are coming up on midterms in the next couple of weeks and this can be a very stressful time for students and teachers alike. Make sure that you're checking in on your students, but not just their grades. Talk to them about their classes, what is going well and what are they struggling with? If you or your student would like to set up a time to meet just send me an email and we'll get something put together!
We'll also be re-running the sophomore independent study report at the end of the nine weeks. The requirements are that the student is passing all of their classes, they currently have a 3.0 or better GPA, and 98% attendance with no unexcused absences. If this is something you think your student might be interested in definitely talk to them about it and help them set goals to get there!
EF News:
Do you want to go on a trip of a lifetime? Next year during Spring Break we will be going to London and Paris and making memories that will last forever! If you'd like more information on the trip reach out to Mr. Cavanagh or Mr. Valentin, but the most important information is that until the end of February there is a promotional offer that knocks $200 off of the cost of the trip! After February that promotion goes away, so if you're considering sending your student take advantage of this!

Junior Class SAT at School on March 4, 2020
Starting this school year, House Bill 3 (HB 3) included a school finance provision that provides for every junior and senior to take a college preparation exam at least once during high school. In October, approximately half of our seniors took the SAT at school at no cost to them. On March 4th, all GCISD juniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT at school at no cost as well. Materials for all juniors will be provided so no registration will be required.
