Weekly News from Kimball Hill

WEEK of November 22, 2021

Message from the Principal

We look forward to seeing you next week during Parent-Teacher conferences. This is an important time for us to discuss your child’s progress and determine how we can work together to best support your child here at school. If you are unable to keep your scheduled conference, please be sure to email your child's teacher as soon as possible to let us know.

I would like to kindly ask for your help with a few things to ensure your child remains healthy and safe at school.

  • With the onset of cold temperatures, please remind your child to wear a jacket and appropriate winter clothing each day. We continue to see students coming to school in shorts and without a jacket. If your child needs a jacket, please email me.

  • Please remind your child that only water should be brought to school to drink during the school day. We are seeing an increase in students who are bringing energy drinks, hot chocolate and other drinks.

  • For the safety of our entire community, it is necessary for all families to follow our school dismissal procedures. Drop off and pick up on Meadow Drive and the front and side staff parking lot are prohibited. We have been alerted by the police that they will begin giving citations.

On behalf of the entire Kimball Hill staff, I wish all of our families a very Happy Thanksgiving! I am very grateful for our incredibly supportive community!

As always, please reach out to me anytime with questions, concerns or feedback. Enjoy the weekend!

Warmly,

Michelle LaCamera

News from Nurse Lidia

As you may know children between 5-11years of age are currently able to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Please be aware that it is common for children to have symptoms after receiving the vaccine in the prior 3 days (including the day of vaccination, which is considered day 1).

Per IDPH, the following symptoms may be vaccine related, possible COVID-19, or other unrelated illness (e.g., chills, headache, myalgia, arthralgia, fatigue). If your child experiences these symptoms that persist for more than 2 days it is encouraged that they see their healthcare provider and/or be tested for further evaluation before returning to school.

If your child experiences the following symptoms, it is unlikely to be from COVID-19 vaccination (e.g., cough, shortness of breath, rhinorrhea, loss of taste/smell) and per IDPH the student must be seen by their healthcare provider and be tested.

Also, please be aware that your child will not be considered to be fully vaccinated until after two weeks of receiving their 2nd dose. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 847-963-5202 or via email at alemanl@ccsd15.net.

Outdoor Recess District Procedures

Please see our district-wide outdoor procedures below. If your child is in need of a winter jacket, please send me an email; lacamerm@ccsd15.net

Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.

  • Staff members provide playground supervision. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.

  • Warm weather: Students will be outside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is below 100 degrees. Students will be inside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is 100 degrees or above.
Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.

  • oor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
