Virginia Math Pathways Update

As LCPS prepares for the release of the 2023 Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Mathematics Standards and the implementation of the Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI), families should be aware of the proposed changes to the Mathematics course offerings. To understand the proposed changes to the course progressions, VDOE is offering Community Informational Sessions.

A series of one-hour VMPI Community Informational Sessions will be held during the next several months to provide parents and community members an opportunity to learn more about the Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative. The sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 6:30 p.m. - How does VMPI affect Virginia Children’s Futures?
  • Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 6:30 p.m. - Essential Concepts in Grades 8 - 10
  • Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 6:30 p.m. - Advanced Pathways in Grades 11 - 12

All sessions will be live streamed on the VDOE’s YouTube Channel beginning at 6:30pm with a 20-minute presentation from members of the VMPI Planning Committees and will follow with time for facilitators to respond to questions from the community. Questions participants would like to have addressed during the sessions can be submitted here. For additional information, visit the Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI) webpage periodically, as additional information will be added as the initiative progresses. The Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative Informational Video provides valuable information about the initiative.

Hybrid Students - Symptom Tracker

From the Nurse

To all parents and students; it is very important that the Daily Symptom tracker be completed on all days you are scheduled for Hybrid, in person, learning. This allows me to know if you are certified to be at school on your given days. The tracker should be completed even if you have decided participate remotely on your hybrid days.

Juniors worried about the college essays you will have to write, well start NOW!!! Star writing now and have a teacher, friend, parent give you feed back. In August when RRHS has the College Jump Start Essay and Applications Workshop you will be ready!!!

Below is the full set of Common App essay prompts for 2021-2022.

  1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
  1. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
  1. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
  1. Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?
  1. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
  1. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
  1. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

Attendance Information!

Push notifications for both period and daily attendance via the mobile app and email notifications of period attendance will be available to parents. Parents can opt out of emails or opt into push notifications using Configure Push Notifications or Emails.

Apple disabled PVUE Push Notifications for iOS devices on March 31, 2021. If you opted into these notifications on their iOS devices, you were receiving grading and/or attendance information. You will no longer receive these notifications on your iOS device. You can receive similar information via email, by using the instructions in the Opt-In/Out of Push Notifications or Emails PDF (English) (Spanish) to enable email notifications. This change to Apple does not impact the period attendance emails automatically sent when a student is marked absent or tardy by a teacher.
