What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * January 8, 2016

Welcome to 2016!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Truly a happy week getting reacquainted with our learning, our space, and most importantly, each other! Goal-setting really set the tone for the week as we move into a winter full of new projects, objectives, and GROWTH! Your help is greatly appreciated supporting your students in becoming reacquainted with our classroom and school expectations. I'm looking forward to next week already!!

NWEA - Please note...

The next round of NWEA testing will take place in May. The exact dates have yet to be determined, but I will send them out as soon as I know. If you have further questions regarding NWEA testing, please contact Brett Lobben, our Associate Principal, at (952) 975-8216.

In the meantime, I am continuing to monitor your student's progress in many different ways and look forward to chatting with you at Parent-Teacher Conferences next month!

Surprise... Mrs. Peterson was today's Mystery Reader!

We are thrilled to kick off 2016 with a slate of new Mystery Readers this month! (THANK YOU!!!) Mrs. Peterson brought the story of Jumanji alive to us this morning. It was fun to see the delighted faces when they saw a former teacher come to read to them once again! We have taken turns reading the story ourselves throughout the day! Some of us even wrote our own versions!

If this sounds like an experience you (or someone special to your 3rd grader) would like to have, check out more information and a sign-up page here. Hope to see you soon!!

Focus on the Curriculum

  • Weekly Prefix: inter- (between, among)

Please make sure your student is completing their Matching Activity in their Learning Log on Monday night, so that they have plenty of time to learn their new words.

Also, they must complete five Spelling City activities at home (via web or free app) during the week to practice.

  • Visualizing

This site helps you understand a little more about what visualizing is. You can do this with ANY story, any level. Try reading a story without looking at the pictures and creating your own illustrations this week!

  • Chapter 3: Measuring and Graphing

This week, students will dive into a review of measuring length with both the customary system (inches, feet, yards) AND the metric system (centimeters and meters). Stay on the lookout for opportunities for your students to tell time and read thermometers around the house as often as possible, too!

And remember... PLEASE continue to reinforce multiplication and division skills however you can at home. IXL, MobyMax, or www.multiplication.com are all phenomenal tools to help your student excel!

Homework will be "Weekly Review #12", sent home Monday and due Friday.

Digital Citizenship

In preparation for iPads coming home (you'll receive more information about this soon!), students are working on special digital citizenship lessons. So far, we've talked a lot about the types of information that are okay to share on websites and internet safety.
