September News #readytofly

A Note from Mrs. Phillips

Dear Hornet Families,

What a great start to our year! We have been busy establishing expectations and building relationships so far. We recently finished our beginning of the year testing and NWEA. It is almost time for progress reports, already. The best way to stay in touch with your child's teacher is through Class Dojo. They are available daily, but please give them 24 hours to respond. If you notice your child is struggling or would like additional resources, please contact your child's teacher. We want to stay in front of any possible academic concerns before they become an issue.

As you hear your child talk about WIN time, I wanted to give you a little background of what this time means at FCE. What I Need (WIN), is exactly that! This time is devoted to meeting your child where they currently are performing on our priority standards. (You can find those listed below.) After looking at the data, our teachers will develop intentional plans for reteaching, application practice, or extension, for every student. Students are grouped based on data and provided 30 minutes of targeted instruction for both math and reading, every day. Students who were identified last year will continue their small group instruction the first week of September. All other students are under the first 10 weeks of tier 1 instruction. Our team meets every 6 weeks to review data and classroom performance. If your child qualifies for intense intervention, you will be notified via a permission slip. If you have any further questions about WIN time, please connect with your child's teacher.

Thank you to all who participated in our World's Finest Chocolate Sale. It was a huge success! The money earned from this fundraiser helps support digital programs in each classroom, financial support for field trips, and other daily needs for students and teachers at FCE. Our next PTO event is our Fall Carnival. It takes a team to run a carnival and we are looking for more parents to join us! We hope you can attend our next PTO meeting on Sept. 18th at 5 p.m.

My goal is to be as transparent as possible as your leader. If there is anything we can do better, please let me know. You can always message me on Dojo, Facebook or Twitter. I am also available by email and phone. I will return your communication within 24 hours. Have a great September!

Be kind, be amazing, and ALWAYS be ready to F.L.Y.!

Priority Standards

Quarter 1: Aug. 9th -Oct. 6th

Each quarter, our instruction is focused on district developed priority standards. As a school, we monitor your child's growth in these standards through common formative assessments (CFAs). During WIN time, teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each student, based on CFA data. You may hear your child discuss WIN time. Every child participates in this designated time for both math and reading. It is our way to ensure we have covered our priority standards and support your child in reaching mastery. If you have more questions about WIN time or CFAs, please reach out to your child's teacher.
