IN THE KNOW!
Morning Volunteers
Can you spare 20 minutes of your morning?
We are looking for parent volunteers to help provide a positive and safe morning arrival. This could be roaming the blacktop and talking to students, going on the walk and talk, ensuring that kids know they have choices but all must be safe. You'll have the opportunity to spend time having fun with your own kiddo while keeping them all safe.
This opportunity is available every school day in the morning. Sign up times are Monday-Friday 8:55-9:15am. All NSD volunteers must apply online each year. Apply here!
Use this link to sign up! Questions? Email Bob Graff at rgraff@nsd.org.
Office Volunteers and Substitute Opportunities
We are looking for some volunteers to help out in our office! When you sign up for a date, please note the time you plan to come in. SIGN UP HERE!
Please note: all volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application and background check online. Learn more and complete an online application here.
Are you interested in becoming a paid employee?
We're also looking for family members interested in becoming NSD substitutes for our office staff and school assistants. If you're interested in becoming a paid employee, please visit this link to the NSD employment site. Select "Complete Your Application" for substitute office personnel and paraeducators. For questions, call 425-408-7604 or email humanresources@nsd.org.

Lions Club Recycle for Sight
We are excited to be participating in Lions Club Recycle for Sight. The Lions Club in our community collect used prescription eyeglasses and prescription/non-prescription sunglasses as part of a unique recycling program. The collected glasses will be cleaned and prepared for distribution in developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
We are asking people to look through their homes for used eyeglasses and donate them to the Lions Recycle For Sight program. Children’s glasses especially are in need. Donations can be dropped off at the main office or health room!

CANYON CREEK REMINDERS
Attendance
Attendance Line + Email
When your child will be absent or tardy, please email ccattendance@nsd.org and CC your student’s teacher OR leave a message on our 24-hour phone line at 425-408-5710 by 9:50am. If the absence is reported after 9:50am, you may receive an automated call.
If you are concerned that your student's absences have not been updated, please email ccattendance@nsd.org requesting confirmation.
Student Drop-Off
Students should be dropped off no earlier than 9:00am when campus supervision begins and picked up no later than 3:45pm at the end of the day.
Early Pick-Up
If your child will be leaving early for the day, families/guardians will need to send a note, email both the teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org, or call the office on the main line at 425-408-5700. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line. Please avoid picking up during their scheduled lunch, recess or specialist time. It can be especially difficult to find students on the playground and in the cafeteria.
Only an authorized person may take a child from school. Any student being dismissed prior to the regular dismissal time must be met in the office, where the student must be signed out by the parent/guardian or authorized person. Families are not permitted to walk directly to classrooms.
Change in After School Plan
If there is a change in your child’s after school plan or how they will be getting home, parents/guardians must send a note or email your student’s teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org before school starts. If a change is needed after the start of school, please call our main office line at 425-408-5700 to ensure that we get the message to your student and their teacher in time for dismissal. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line.
Pre-Arranged Absences
In the event that your child will miss more than two consecutive school days for a reason other than health or medical issues, complete and submit the Pre-Approved Absence Request Google Form at least one week before the first planned day of absence. Access the form here!
Drop Off/Pick Up
Please be sure your student is at Canyon Creek at 9am and you are here to pick them up by 3:45pm.
Safety Reminder:
We ask parents to please do your part! Please obey traffic rules, be courteous of neighbors, do not park illegally, and stay alert for young people walking to and from school. If school busing is available in your neighborhood, please consider sending your student to and from school on the bus to reduce congestion.
Here are a few reminders to ensure we can safely get students to and from school:
DO NOT drop students off in the bus loop (staff parking lot).
If you are a walker, please do NOT use the crosswalk in front of the entrance to Canyon Creek/Skyview on 35th. People who use the crosswalk stop traffic from leaving or entering our campus, creating a massive car pile up.
If you are a walker from the North side of CC, use the entrance near the 3rd grade portables.
If you are a walker from the East/South side of CC, use the walkway through the baseball field at Canyon Creek and the crosswalk near the gate entrance of Skyview.
If your student can ride the bus, please have them use this form of transportation to get to CC.
If you are a walker and it rains, continue to walk to school. If walkers decide to drive to school due to weather, the back-up for drop-off and pick-up will more than double.
Do not drop your student off in the parking lot and have them walk alone.
Volunteers
All volunteers in the Northshore School District are required to complete a volunteer application and background check online. Volunteers will need to complete the application once a year.
Volunteers can learn more and complete an online application here.
Lost and Found
Please remember to print your child’s name in their lunch box, jackets, coats, and sweatshirts. We will return lost items to students if their names are in them.
Students can look for their lost items on the hooks in the hallways between the gym/cafeteria and restroom hallways. Any items remaining on the last day of school before winter and summer breaks will be donated.
Winter Weather Reminders
The recent inclement weather was challenging for many. Given the vast area the Northshore School District covers, conditions vary from one area to another. We are dependent on each local jurisdiction’s public works to maintain city and county roads. We will continue to communicate the importance of clearing roads near schools with our public work partners and the county.
I also want to take this opportunity to remind everyone about our snow and inclement weather communication protocols. Once drivers have completed their assessment of road conditions, there is a coordination meeting at 4:30 a.m. the day of the weather event. We moved this meeting up by 30 minutes this year in order to give staff earlier notice of any changes. It is at this meeting the team recommends bus route type, closure, a 2-hour delay, or to start on time.
By 5 a.m. the team begins communicating any schedule or route changes. If weather conditions make a schedule change necessary, Northshore School District will communicate the decision through the following methods and in this order:
- TV and Radio Stations: Checking the local television or radio stations is an effective and efficient way to find out if there is a schedule change.
- Northshore School District social media:
- Instagram: @teamnorthshore
- Twitter: @Northshore_SD
- Facebook: Northshore School District
- District and School Websites: The Communication Department posts school schedule updates to the District and school websites as early as possible between 5 and 5:30 a.m.
- Phone calls, emails, and text messages: Staff will receive an email and text as close to 5 a.m. as possible and a follow up phone call around 5:30 a.m. Families will receive a phone call, email, text message, starting around 5:30 a.m.
- Northshore Information Line: You may also call the District’s information line, 425-408-6001, beginning at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for school closure information.
If the District does not make an announcement, it means schools are open on time and buses are on a regular schedule.
