Notes from the Principal
Closing Out the School Year
As we count down these last remaining days of the school year, it is time to reflect back on the year and all of the challenges and successes we have enjoyed here at Boone. It has been a very productive and active year. Through it all, the Boone families and staff have drawn closer together and have united in our belief that Boone is a wonderful school, an exciting place to be, and a safe place for our children. There have been so many new and exciting things that have taken place, it would take me a year just to list everything. All I can say is, “Thanks to all of you for everything you have done to make this a wonderful year!!!”
Exciting News
I was recently made aware of an exciting bit of news heading into next school year. Due to some outstanding work by the AISD Food Services Department, Boone will become a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) campus next year. This Food Service program guarantees that every student at Boone will receive a free breakfast and lunch at school every day, regardless of the family’s income level. More information on this new program will be sent out in the Fall, as the school year begins, but I am very excited for what this could mean for so many of our Boone families.
Possible Boundary Changes for Boone
As I have mentioned in a previous Boone Bear Facts, AISD is considering several boundary changes that would potentially affect Boone. While none of the possible changes include any students leaving Boone, it does have options on adding students from the current Cowan attendance zone.
To provide additional information and to receive community input, the district has set up a series of Boundary Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings over the next several weeks. The School Board is expected to vote on any changes at their October meeting. The meeting that addresses the Boone/Cowan boundaries is on May 29, from 6-8:30pm in the CAC Boardroom.
Here is the meeting information from AISD –
Please note: These dates will allow for the work of the BAC to be incorporated into the School Changes process. The boundaries will be approved by the Board in October (not December as originally messaged) as part of the School Changes recommendations.
BAC Meetings
- Wed, May 29 (6-8:30) at the CAC, Board Auditorium - discuss Cowan and Boone maps. (This meeting was previously on May 30)
- Thurs, June 13 (5:30-8:30) at the CAC, Board Auditorium - discuss Kiker and Baranoff maps (Kocurek, Mills and Menchaca are in scenario maps)
- Tues, June 18 (6-8:30) location TBD - discuss any remaining items including grandfathering and Bailey and Gorzycki for Greyrock Ridge
- Tues, July 23 (6-8:30) location TBD - discuss feedback from community open houses
BAC Community Open Houses (please attend one or both)
- Thurs, July 18 (6-7:30), Bailey or Gorzycki - share BAC preliminary maps and other information
- Sat, July 20 (10-11:30), Bailey or Gorzycki - share BAC preliminary maps and other information
and finally…
I hope all of you have a relaxing and enjoyable time away from school over the next weeks. We have all earned a bit of relaxation time. As much as I hate to see this year end, I am already getting excited for the year ahead. It has truly been a great year!!!!Announcing Mrs. Chalberg's Departure

World Wellness Wednesday
I would like to send a HUGE thank you to everyone that made World Wellness Wednesday (WWW) a success this year! Thank you to Mr. Stevens for coordinating a vegetarian menu with AISD Food Services. We looked forward to the tasting menu every week. Also, thank you for allowing the staff to wear workout clothes on Wednesday for signing the "meat free pledge". We looked forward to Wednesdays every week!
Finally, thank you to the WWW committee: Kelly Wardlaw, Amy Harris, Jennifer Schroeder, Ginger Bolen, Stephanie Crocker, Rachel Alexander, Erin Murdock, and Sam Barrett. You ladies rock! Thank you for making helping make our campus healthy and strong. I appreciate you!

From the Health Room
As a friendly reminder, please pick up medications from the health room by the last day of school. Parents must pick up all medications with the exception of inhalers. If a parent has approved for the student to carry the inhaler home, teachers will place it in the student's backpack on the last day of school. Any medications left in the health room will be discarded at the end of the school year.
For students with emergency medications on campus (EpiPens, inhalers, Diastat) - I will be placing paperwork for next school year inside the Ziploc bag with medications. New paperwork must be filled out each school year. Please plan ahead and get necessary doctor appointments scheduled during the summer.
Thanks, and I am already looking forward to next year!

Please check your child's folder tonight. There is a paper copy of our Summer Flyer and attached to it are many reading programs that your child is eligible to participate in. Don't let the summer slide happen to your child.
Thank your for everyone who came out to Book Fair! We raised just under $2,000 (profit) for our library.
Schlitterbahn tickets have arrived for those students who participated in Waves of Pages. I will be sending the tickets home on Monday. Please email me or call me if you'd rather pick your child's ticket up.
